The Costa del Sol's Lauro Golf club was the setting last Friday, June 18, for the gathering of more than 50 Solheim Cup ambassadors who came together to receive the first delivery of their uniforms from PING.

The unanimous support for this initiative by female golfers has made it a fundamental tool to bring to all corners of the planet the international team competition that will bring together in Spain for the first time in history the teams of Europe and the United States from September 18 to 24, 2023 at Finca Cortesín (Costa del Sol, Andalusia).

Three months after its founding and presentation, which took place in Benahavís on March 19 and was sponsored by José Antonio Mena, mayor of that Malaga town, the Club Ambassador Program has been completed with a hundred ambassadors of fourteen different nationalities who are a perfect cross-section of the female golf community of our country, reinforced by members who reside on the other side of the Atlantic such as the Andalusian professional Belén Mozo, based in Colombia, Elisa Gaudet, founder of the Women's Golf Day and Azucena Maldonado, president of the Latina Golfers Association of Los Angeles, USA.

Among the program's one hundred ambassadors are Solheim Cup players like Paula Martí and Ana Belén Sánchez, active professionals such as Patricia Sanz, Patricia Lobato, and Camilla Hedberg, media representatives like Elena Jiménez, Montse San Francisco, and Susana Escolar, among others, and members of golf clubs throughout Spain. All of them received their special Solheim Cup 2023 polo shirt and responded to the invitation with the same enthusiasm they have shown since the club's inception.

“I never imagined this would be so big, the energy it gives off, the desire, the enthusiasm. It's been a revelation. It doesn't matter where we're from, because we're all in this together and we'll maintain this level for years to come,” explained Esther de la Cruz, ambassador for the Albacete club Las Pinaíllas.

The Club Ambassador Program was created with the intention of bringing the Solheim Cup closer to golfers around the world thanks to the ability of its ambassadors to inspire, mobilize and communicate, and there are countless initiatives, large and small, that they have already launched.

“Being an ambassador for the 2023 Solheim Cup means a lot to me, and it’s an honor to be part of a great team that will undoubtedly make the Solheim Cup at Finca Cortesín a game-changer in our country. Over these two years, we want to take the Solheim Cup and Sol, our new mascot, all over Spain so that people know what the biggest women’s golf event in the world is all about,” summarized Susana Escolar of GolfHadas.

In the minds of all the ambassadors, one fixed idea: to use their enthusiasm to bring the benefits of the Solheim Cup and women's golf to society as a whole and, in doing so, turn the Finca Cortesín event into a historic event.

“The idea of having a group of ambassadors seemed fantastic to me. Few things have excited me as much as being part of this, and I hope to live up to the standards of this premier women's golf event. We will try to convey to as many people as possible what the Solheim Cup means; we want to encourage and mobilize everyone present at Finca Cortesín. We have to make it the best and most fun Solheim Cup ever,” summarized Montse San Francisco, editor of Ladies in Golf magazine.

The 2021 Solheim Cup will serve as the official launch of this partnership, as many of the ambassadors will travel to Toledo, Ohio, this year to support the European team and promote the best possible image of the edition that will be held in Spain, at Finca Cortesín, in 2023. Undoubtedly, the members of the Club Ambassador Program will make their mark on the tournament, just as they are already doing throughout Spain.

The 2023 Solheim Cup, an event of exceptional public interest whose official venue is Finca Cortesín, is sponsored by PING, Costa del Sol, and Rolex as global partners; and by Andalucía, Acosol, the Marbella City Council, and the Benahavís City Council as official partners. Solán de Cabras, Eversheds Sutherland, and the Casares City Council are official suppliers. Marca and Radio Marca are official media outlets. The LET, LPGA, RFEG, CSD, RFGA, and Deporte & Business are collaborating in its organization.
