The Spanish Pitch & Putt team has extended its unbeaten streak at the international level with a new victory (9.5-6.5) against the French team, who, as happened a year ago at the Grand Motte course in Montpellier, made them work hard for their defeat.
The Escorpión Golf Club in Valencia was the scene of the third Spanish victory since the creation of the RFEG Pitch & Putt Committee back in 2004. On this occasion, the triumph was slightly more comfortable than in 2006, when the French players only lost in the play-off tiebreaker.
The key to the match lay in the singles duels of the second and final day, where Spain's superiority was evident in the narrow victories of María Castillo (1up), Óscar Sánchez (1up), Juan Rodríguez (1up), and Andrés Pastor (2up). Of the four remaining matches, three ended in a draw, preventing France from leveling the score.
The first day ended with a four-point tie after neither team managed to secure a partial victory in the 'fourballs' and 'foursomes'.
This victory is Spain's third after the one mentioned in the first edition of the International Match against France, and the one achieved six months later on the Portuguese field of Quinta de Lagrimas against Portugal (6.5 – 5.5).
