The fight for the title was thrilling until the very last shot. The fierce competition between Club de Golf Terramar and Real Club de Golf de Castiello brought the championship to a close finish, with Erik Hedberg and Álvaro Huidobro facing off for the victory of their respective teams.
And the outcome was long awaited. The two players prolonged the duel for three additional holes until Erik Hedberg finally secured the point that Terramar needed to clinch their victory and be crowned Spanish champion.
Previously, the Catalan team took the lead in the foursome match thanks to Ignacio de Pineda and Álvaro Guerín, who won 1 up against Juan García-Ochoa and Ignacio Adaro.
Subsequently, the Asturian team leveled the score with Miguel Díaz-Negrete's victory over Genis Alberti by 4/3, which led to a nail-biting finish that capped off a great performance by the Barcelona team, forced to give their all until the very last moment against a Castiello team that kept their chances of retaining the title intact until the final stages of the event.
RCG El Prat completed the podium
The third place in the Spanish Interclub Men's Championship went to Real Club de Golf El Prat, who beat Club de Golf Escorpión 2/1 in the match for third and fourth place, thus completing the podium of the competition.
In the other matches to determine the Flight A classification, the Real Club de la Puerta de Hierro team finished fifth after beating the Real Club de Golf Las Palmas team 3-0, and the Real Club de Golf de La Coruña finished seventh after defeating the Real Club de Golf de Cerdaña 2-1.
Vallromanes, winner of Flight B
The Vallromanes Golf Club team has secured a Catalan sweep in this tournament with their 2.5-0.5 victory against the Real Club de Golf La Herrería team in the Flight B final that decided the ninth place.
Meanwhile, Real Club de Golf Guadalhorce finished eleventh after their 1.5-1.5 tie with the RACE team, and the same results between Real Sociedad Hípica Española Club de Campo and Real Club de Golf de San Sebastián, first, and between Real Club de Golf de Tenerife and Real Club de Golf de Pedreña later, meant that the Madrid team finished in 13th place and the Canary Island team in 15th.
Terramar and Castiello, brand new finalists
The teams from Club de Golf Terramar and Real Club de Golf de Castiello reached the grand final of the 2026 Spanish Interclub Men's Championship, held at the Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas.
Terramar secured their place in the next round after defeating Club de Golf Escorpión 2-1. Ignacio de Pineda and Álvaro Guerín earned the first point by winning their foursome match against Miguel Fuertes and José de la Concepción, while Genis Alberti sealed the victory by beating Jorge de la Concepción 4&2. Alejandro Tarín secured Escorpión's point against Erik Hedberg.
In the other semifinal, defending champions Real Club de Golf de Castiello defeated El Prat. Juan García-Ochoa and Ignacio Adaro won the foursome 2&1 against Tomás Junquera and Javier Pérez-Tasso, before Miguel Díez-Negrete secured the Asturian team's place by beating Xavi Yagüe 2&1. Álvaro R. Huidobro and Vicente Mestre drew the third match.
Exciting first round of qualifiers
The quarterfinals produced some major surprises. The biggest was the elimination of Real Club de Golf de Cerdaña, the Stroke Play group leader, at the hands of Club de Golf Escorpión by a score of 2-1.
Castiello also struggled to overcome Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas. The host team, third in the Stroke Play phase, kept the tie alive until the very last moment, but ultimately saw their dream of reaching the semifinals dashed.
RCG Cerdaña and the uncertainty of the Match Play format
Cerdaña's elimination once again demonstrated the unpredictability of Match Play. After dominating the opening day, the Catalan team succumbed to an Escorpión side that confirmed the positive impressions they had made since the start of the championship.
El Prat, Terramar and Castiello completed the semifinals
Of the top three finishers in the Stroke Play phase, only El Prat managed to get past the quarterfinals, defeating Real Club de Golf de La Coruña 2-1. Terramar did the same against Puerta de Hierro by the same score, while Castiello and Escorpión completed the semifinalists.
