. Besides the reigning champion, South African Connie Chen, Becky Brewerton, Laura Davies, Melissa Reid and Stacey Keating, who also know what it's like to win a Spanish Women's Open, will be competing in Malaga.
. Those who have won the Spanish Women's Open on occasion have not, however, been able to repeat the experience so far this century.
The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino, a European Professional Tour tournament taking place at Aloha Golf (Malaga) between September 22nd and 25th, will feature a significant number of previous winners of the tournament, who come to the Malaga course with the intention of winning for the second time in a competition that has a kind of unwritten curse, which prevents its winners in this century from lifting the champion's trophy again.
South African Connie Chen will defend her title at stake in this tournament, which will feature the best golfers on the Ladies European Tour. She made her debut in 2014 in the task of inscribing her name on the coveted pedestal of the Spanish Women's Open trophy – increasingly populated, by the way, by players of impressive renown – thanks to her impressive mastery on the fairways and greens of the Costa Adeje course in Tenerife, which constituted her first victory in the professional arena.
As if that weren't enough of an incentive, what can be said about the outcome of the 2011 edition, which favored the Englishwoman Melissa Reid – also present in Malaga – when with 4 holes to go up to ten players had real possibilities of inscribing their name in the record of this competition.
Apart from Connie Chen and Melissa Reid, Becky Brewerton, who won the 2009 edition, will also be present at the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino, the culmination of an idyllic relationship with Spain that the Welsh player hopes to maintain shortly at Aloha Golf.
It's no coincidence that Becky Brewerton has almost always achieved memorable results whenever she has played in Spain. These include, in addition to her victory at the 2009 Spanish Women's Open, three second-place finishes at the Tenerife Ladies Open in 2003, 2004, and 2009, and a win at the Tenerife Ladies Match Play in 2011.
Apart from the three players mentioned, Australian Stacey Keating, winner in 2012 at Golf Las Américas after overcoming German Caroline Mason in a heart-stopping playoff, also aspires to achieve the double, a very difficult objective given the enormous quality of the players present in this edition of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino.
And if there wasn't enough glamour in this list of former winners eager to repeat their triumph, a very special mention is also made for the legendary Laura Davies, one of the great icons in the history of professional women's golf.
The Englishwoman further cemented her incredible and voracious winning record by triumphing in the 2010 edition held at Flamingos Golf. The celebrated English golfer, then 46 years old, amassed her 76th victory on the Ladies European Tour, clear proof of an astonishing quality that will now be another major draw at this year's Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino 2016.
