Aloha Golf Club, in Nueva Andalucía (Marbella, Málaga), has been designated as the venue for the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino 2016, a competition within the Ladies European Tour that will take place between September 22 and 25 with the main sponsorship of Turismo de Andalucía, Turismo Costa del Sol and Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental.

The choice of Aloha Golf Club, a course of renowned prestige, renews the commitment to quality that emanates from the Costa del Sol, one of the most important destinations in all of Europe, to the point that it perfectly responds to the motto coined in its day –Costa del Sol, Costa del Golf–, which has made this beautiful area of the Spanish geography famous.

Aloha Golf Club, a great design by Javier Arana

Designed at the time by the prestigious Javier Arana –it was his last project before his death in 1975, shortly before the work on the course was completed, so it can be considered his posthumous work, built by Garden & Golf–, Aloha Golf houses one of the most beautiful and unique golf courses in Spain.

A parkland-style, par-72 course, its design demands both precision off the tee and a good approach shot to the green. Undulating terrain, a picturesque grove of trees, and lakes are among the distinctive features of Aloha Golf, along with spectacular views of the Sierra La Concha mountain range and the Mediterranean Sea.

The designer Javier Arana's signature style was also reflected in his personal choice of the type of trees and plants that would populate the field, with the idea of being able to enjoy flowering trees at any time of year.

Almost since its inception in 1975, Aloha Golf has been closely linked to the world of high-level competition. In 1978 it hosted the Spanish Amateur Championship, and in 1989 it held the 2nd International Mixed Professional Golf Championship, which was won by Miguel Ángel Jiménez and Xonia Wunsch.

In recent years, it has hosted the Andalusian Open, part of the European Tour, three times. In 2007, Englishman Lee Westwood won after setting a course record of 64 strokes. Subsequently, in 2008, the victory went to Ryder Thomas Levet, while in 2012, Julien Quesne triumphed with a final round of 8 under par, which, in addition to securing first place, allowed him to equal the course record.

Presence of the best players from the Women's European Tour

The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino is the thirteenth event on the Ladies European Tour 2016 calendar and will be the only tournament of this important Circuit to be held in our country this year, with the presence of the best professional golfers from the Old Continent.

This will be the third time in history that the Costa del Sol has hosted the Spanish Women's Open, following those held at Flamingos in 2010 and La Quinta in 2011. In the first case, the victory went to the legendary Laura Davies, while in the second, the trophy ended up in the hands of her fellow Englishwoman, Melissa Reid.

The support from Turismo de Andalucía, Turismo Costa del Sol and the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol is part of a sports and tourism promotion effort, aware of the appeal of golf among national and foreign tourists, who find in this sport an additional incentive when choosing this Spanish region as a destination.

This prestigious competition is also supported by Reale Seguros, the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, Aloha Golf Club, the Spanish National Sports Council, and the Ladies European Tour. It is organized by Deporte & Business.
