A large field of 77 players will participate in the 2010 Spanish Senior Men's and Women's Individual Pitch & Putt Championship, held at the Cofrentes course in Valencia on October 2nd and 3rd. Given this increase in the number of entrants, this second edition of the tournament is expected to be more competitive and feature an even higher level of play than the first.
In the men's competition, Alejandro Muñoz, a player from Manises (Valencia), is defending his title. Last year he won with a total of 117 strokes, split between rounds of 61 and 56, on this same Cofrentes course. This time he will face stiffer competition, with 61 players vying for the title.
As for the women's competition, the absence of Valencian Celia Cuartero, last year's winner with a total of 116 strokes (58 strokes per round), is notable. María Isabel Saiz, also from Valencia and runner-up in 2009, will be in Cofrentes, making her the main contender.
The championship will consist of two events, the men's and the women's, and a common playing system that includes two days of 'stroke play' in which the participants will play 18 holes.
The creation of this Spanish Senior Individual Pitch & Putt Championship in 2009 by the Pitch & Putt Committee of the RFEG (Royal Spanish Golf Federation) responded to the need to meet the growing demand for competitions in this golf discipline, which has become so popular among Spanish players in recent times. This tournament also took over from the Spanish International Championship, which had been held since 2005.
The tournament will once again be sponsored by Gesver Deportiva, whose main activity is the management and organization of golf tournaments for companies, as well as the provision of golf lessons for groups and businesses. Gesver Deportiva also supplies golf equipment and merchandise for all types of sporting events.
