The fourth edition of the Spanish Doubles Pitch & Putt Championship moves to the Barbanza Golf course in Galicia on September 11th and 12th. In its first edition outside the Canary Islands, 35 pairs will compete for the title, which has been won by José Manuel Carretero and Pablo Montesdeoca in the last two editions.
Both players top the list of participants in the tournament – also by playing handicap (2.7) – although this time the number and level of the rivals is, on paper, even higher than in previous editions. Pairs such as Jaime Sureda and Francisco Rodríguez (10.0), José Ángel Pérez and Juan Rodríguez (10.9), José Jorge Rodríguez and Juan Carlos Iglesias (10.9), or Alberto Campos and Ángel Manuel Román (12.5) must prove their mettle on the greens of A Coruña.
In addition, other pairs of proven quality – Antonio Esteban and Eustaquio Rodríguez (14.0), and Jorge Montesdeoca and Marcial Domínguez (18.00) are two of them – will liven up the two days of play.
The record of this Spanish Doubles Pitch & Putt Championship is clearly dominated by one figure, José Manuel Carretero from the Canary Islands, who has won all three editions played with two different partners. In the first edition, he was partnered with Bernabé González, with whom he formed an ideal duo at Oasis Golf (Gran Canaria) to defeat María Castillo and Lucía Cortezo.
In the two subsequent editions, her partner has been Pablo Montesdeoca, with whom she has won two titles comfortably. In 2008, they defeated Lucía Cortezo and Paola González, while in 2009, María Castillo and Lucía Cortezo themselves took second place.
This Spanish Doubles Pitch & Putt Championship, undoubtedly one of the star events on the calendar of this golf specialty prepared by the Pitch & Putt Committee of the RFEG, is played over two rounds of 18 holes.
