The Canary Island players José Manuel Carretero and Pablo Montesdeoca have been proclaimed, for the second time in a row, winners of the Spanish Doubles Pitch & Putt Championship, which has celebrated its third edition at the Canary Island course of Las Palmeras Golf with a remarkable success in participation.
Both golfers obtained their second title with greater ease than expected, as they occupied first position at the end of the first day and extended their lead in the second to win by a total of ten strokes against the pairs formed by María Castillo and Lucía Cortezo, and Carlos Vega and José Perera, all of them from the Canary Islands.
José Manuel Carretero not only won his third consecutive title – the first he shared with Bernabé González – but he did so in the best possible way, finishing first out of 140 players on the par-3 courses at Las Palmeras Golf. His two rounds of 52 strokes attest to this.
This third edition of the Spanish Doubles Pitch & Putt Championship, however, will be remembered as having the highest participation to date. Up to 70 pairs traveled to Las Palmeras Golf to support one of the fastest-growing events organized by the RFEG Pitch & Putt Committee. Furthermore, the four holes-in-one achieved by Fausto Alen, Gregorio Cruz, Carlos Vega, and Jesús Romeo significantly enhanced the spectacle.
A year ago, in 2008, José Manuel Carretero and Pablo Montesdeoca defeated Lucía Cortezo and Paola González in a close match on the first day, which they won decisively on the second and final day. Third place went to Eustaquio Rodríguez and Antonio Esteban, who have had less luck in this 2009 edition.
