There are only six months left until the 2023 Solheim Cup, which will be held from September 18th to 24th at Finca Cortesín on the Costa del Sol, marking the tournament's first time in Spain. This milestone coincided with the unveiling of a clock in the Plaza Marcelino Camacho in the town of Casares, marking the countdown to the 2023 Solheim Cup.
Present at the event were José Carrasco and Juan Luis Villalón, mayor and deputy mayor of Casares respectively; Vicente Rubio, general manager of Finca Cortesín; and Alicia Garrido, president of Deporte and Business, promoter and organizer of the Solheim Cup 2023.
The mayor of Casar welcomed everyone and highlighted in his words "the magnificent opportunity that a tournament like the Solheim Cup represents to showcase to the world the numerous tourist attractions of our municipality, in addition to Finca Cortesín, which is a top-level tourist destination and generates significant wealth for the area.".
The general manager of the tournament's host course noted that "we are 183 days away from the event, and we are taking all the necessary steps to ensure its success.".
Alicia Garrido did not hide the tremendous emotion that comes from seeing the achievement of a dream that "has been fought for for years and for which we will continue working until the last day" getting closer and closer.
Finally, Juan Luis Villalón, deputy mayor of Casares, closed the event by stating that “one of the main objectives of this upcoming Solheim Cup is for all spectators to visit our town. And, furthermore, for the residents of Casares to feel that the 2023 Solheim Cup is something of their own, a legacy that will remain in Málaga, Andalusia, and Spain.”.
The celebrations will continue throughout the week.
This event held in Casares will continue the “Trophy Journey”, which, after traveling through much of Spain, this year will focus on the Costa del Sol and visit countless courses in Marbella and Benahavís to gradually approach its final destination: Finca Cortesín.
In addition, another highlight of this week will be the Marca Sport Weekend, which kicks off with an exciting match-play tournament at Finca Cortesín. Called the “Road to Solheim Cup,” this event will bring together renowned golf enthusiasts such as Toni and Miguel Ángel Nadal, Inés Sastre, David Otero, and Bernd Schuster, among others.
