With nine months to go before the Solheim Cup is held for the first time in Spain, the most important tournament in women's golf continues to produce positive results for all the organizations, companies and institutions involved in its organization.
One of the most relevant facts relates to the media impact of the project, as it has exceeded 120 million euros thanks to the different events and promotional work that have been carried out since it was announced in October 2020.
Another noteworthy figure is the current number of tickets sold, exceeding 45,000, while weekly passes for the Solheim Pavilion sold out three months ago. It seems clear that this will be the first edition of the Solheim Cup to sell out completely.
As regards the origin of the visitors, the audience from the United Kingdom and Ireland is the most numerous, accounting for more than half of the tickets (53%), followed by Spanish spectators, with 21%, and those from other nationalities of the European Union, with 18%.
In this regard, another record-breaking statistic is ticket sales to fans in the United States. While in previous editions of the Solheim Cup held in Europe, only 21% of the total tickets sold went to the American public, this year that figure has tripled to 61%.
The list of entries by nationality for the 2023 Solheim Cup is completed with a 2% which includes a wide variety of countries, especially Asian ones.
The great interest generated by the next edition of the Solheim Cup has also been reflected in the number of registered volunteers, which has already exceeded two thousand, and on the tournament's official website (www.solheimcup2023.eu), where more than 150,000 unique users have been surpassed.
A competition as important as the Solheim Cup also brings with it a significant demand for services such as hotel, restaurant, golf course, and car rental bookings, with a business volume currently estimated at over €18 million. It's worth noting that the majority of these bookings are concentrated in the municipalities of Marbella and Benahavis, the central hub that will concentrate leisure activities for the event beyond just the golf course.
The marketing of trips to attend the Solheim Cup is being carried out through 23 official tour operators based in nine different countries (Spain, Portugal, Ireland, United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Netherlands and USA). This massive sale of tour packages has led to another point that cannot be overlooked: only 1,100 rooms remain available at the Solheim Cup Accommodation Bureau.
In short, after analyzing all these figures, the conclusion that can be drawn is that the commitment made four years ago by the Andalusian institutions, led by the Regional Government of Andalusia, Costa del Sol Tourism, Acosol, and the municipalities of Marbella and Benahavis, to bring the Solheim Cup to Spain, was more than justified. The Solheim Cup project, along with the Race to Costa del Sol (the Ladies European Tour ranking) and the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, is demonstrating that women's golf is experiencing its greatest moment in history, and that the Costa del Sol is one of the best tourist destinations for playing golf.
The 2023 Solheim Cup, an event of exceptional public interest whose official venue is Finca Cortesín, is sponsored by PING, Costa del Sol, and Rolex as global partners; and by the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport of the Andalusian Regional Government, with co-financing from the European Union, Acosol, the Marbella City Council, and the Benahavís City Council as official partners, and Reale Seguros as official sponsor. Solán de Cabras, Eversheds Sutherland, the Casares City Council, Toro, Vithas, EZ-GO, and Jet Set Sports are official suppliers. Marca and Radio Marca are official media outlets. It is promoted and organized by Deporte & Business. The LET, LPGA, RFEG, CSD, and RFGA collaborate in its organization.
