The Mataleñas Golf Club team has won the 2021 Spanish Interclub Pitch & Putt Championship, thus extending its magnificent streak in this competition by achieving its fourth title in five editions.
Likewise, the Cantabrian team achieved a victory from start to finish, as they were at the top of the standings after the Fourball round, maintained their privileged position in the Foursome round and sealed the deal with the individual matches.
In the end, the Mataleñas team brought the total to 367 strokes (96, 109, 162), a figure that allowed them to outscore the second-placed team, Real Club La Moraleja, by just two strokes.
The Madrid team fought until the last moment to prevent the Mataleñas team from winning, but the tournament was decided by small details, as can be deduced from those few two strokes that separated one team from the other.
The battle for third place has been much more intense and uncertain, centered on the fight between the teams from La Junquera and Real Club de Golf de Pedreña. The back-and-forth between these two sides in the first two rounds led to a thrilling individual competition that ultimately saw Real Club de Golf de Pedreña emerge victorious with a total of 369 strokes, two fewer than La Junquera.
The overall classification of this 2021 Spanish Interclub Pitch & Putt Championship was completed with the team from La Junquera, fourth; CC Villa de Madrid, fifth; Club de Golf Escorpión, sixth; Golf Paderne, seventh; Deva Golf, eighth; Las Palmeras, ninth; Guadalajara Club de Golf, tenth; and 5 y 3 Club Deportivo, eleventh.
In addition to the honor roll of this 2021 Spanish Interclub Pitch & Putt Championship, it is worth highlighting the achievement of two holes-in-one. One, on the 8th hole.
by Álvaro Ríos Bertomeu, from the Escorpión Golf Club, and another, on hole 3, starring Enrique Arjol Ruiz, from the 5 and 3 Golf Club.
Mataleñas, leader after the first double day
The Mataleñas quartet, with an exact accumulated handicap of 3.7, made it clear from the first tee that they aspire to extend their magnificent streak in the competition: three titles in the last four editions.
The Mataleñas team, made up of Raúl Toca, Vicente Obeso, Jaime Herrera and Carlos de Diego, took first place with a total of 205 strokes (96 and 109) after the first day of competition in which two rounds were played, one under Fourball format and the other under Foursome format.
The Cantabrian team was closely followed by the Real Club La Moraleja team, who, with a total of 206 strokes, were just one stroke behind the leaders.
The Madrid team, made up of Javier Niederleytner, Rafael Santonja, Carlos Valenzuela and Luis Montero, tied with the Mataleñas team on the second day with a score of 109 strokes, which together with the 97 from the Fourball round leaves them with clear options for the final round of singles.
The La Junquera team completed the provisional podium with a total of 210 strokes (103 and 107). This team, made up of Fabián Bedia, Pablo Sordo, Iván Chacón, and Roberto Maza, staged the day's biggest comeback. After the first round of Fourball, they were in sixth place, but the Foursome round went much better for them, allowing them to snatch third place from the Real Club de Golf de Pedreña team.
