Professional golf at the highest level is also being drastically affected by the transmission of the coronavirus and the decisions made by governments around the world.

The 149th edition of the prestigious Open, scheduled to take place at Royal St. George's from July 16-19, 2020, has been cancelled and postponed to July 15-18, 2021, at the same venue. This decision was announced by the R&A. It is the first major tournament officially cancelled this year, the first edition of which was held in 1860.

Additionally, this is the first time in history that The Open has been cancelled since World War II, following in this case the recommendations of the British Government and health authorities.

New dates for The Masters

Immediately after the cancellation of The Open was confirmed, The Masters announced its new dates: November 9-15. The tournament, which was initially scheduled for April, is, of course, contingent upon approval from US health authorities.
