The Spanish Men's Pitch & Putt Championship has closed this year's edition at the Paderne Golf Course in A Coruña with an undeniable victory for César Crespo.
The Canary Islander confirmed his good performance during the first 36 holes with a final card of 53 strokes, enough to add a total of 157 strokes, three less than his closest pursuers, José María Ortiz de Pinedo and Hugo Carro, who shared the final second place.
César Crespo took the lead after the first day
The Spanish Men's Pitch & Putt Championship began at the Paderne Golf Course in A Coruña with the first day of competition, which, as usual, consisted of two rounds of 18 holes.
At the end of those 36 holes, the most outstanding player was César Crespo, with a total score of 104 strokes, the product of two rounds of 53 and 51 strokes.
Hot on the heels of the Canary Islander and sharing second place were José María Ortiz de Pinedo and Hugo Kestas Nustedt, with a total of 106 strokes, thanks to two rounds of 54 and 52 strokes in the case of the former and a double 53 for the latter, while the fourth provisional position corresponded to Martín Rosende, with two partials of 51 and 56 strokes and a total of 107 strokes.
Another standout player of the day was Hugo Carro, who scored a hole-in-one on the 15th hole at Golf Paderne during the first round. The Galician golfer turned in two rounds of 53 and 56 strokes for a total of 109 strokes, sharing fifth place with César Fernández de Caleya.
The competition system establishes 54 holes under the Scratch Stroke Play modality over two consecutive days: 36 on the first day and 18 on the second, and Bodegas Habla, sponsor of the tournament, gifts one of its prized Magnums to the golfers who manage to make a hole in one in competition.
Leonardo Axel Lilja, great dominator of the record
The tournament's record, currently comprising eighteen titles, is dominated by Leonardo Axel Lilja from Andalusia, who secured his third consecutive victory in 2015 at the Panorámica Golf Club (Castellón). This win put him ahead of another Andalusian golfer who, like Lilja, has also achieved significant results on the long course: Marcos Pastor from Córdoba, winner of the 2010 edition – in which he was crowned Spanish National Champion and Pitch & Putt Champion – and the 2011 edition.
In recent years, José Ángel Pérez, Bernabé González and Prakash Aisa have joined this exclusive group of repeat winners, achieving their second title.
Six events make up the National Ranking
The 2025 National Pitch & Putt Ranking consists of six events: the Spanish Individual Championships and the four National Qualifying events.
The Spanish Women's Championship will take place on October 25th and 26th at Golf Elche, while two National Ranking tournaments have been played to date, with victories for Carlos Vega and César Crespo. The tournaments at La Junquera Golf (Cantabria, June 14th-15th) and Las Encinas Golf (Madrid, September 20th-21st) remain to be played.
