A clear and resounding victory for La Cañada in the Spanish Interclub Children's Championship

Second title for the Cadiz team at Lauro Golf thanks to an inspired Pedro Tineo

The team representing La Cañada Golf Club has successfully defended its title at the 44th Spanish Interclub Junior Championship, held at Lauro Golf Course (Alhaurín de la Torre, Málaga). The Andalusian team, led by an inspired Pedro Tineo, secured a clear and decisive victory.

La Cañada's second title since the tournament's inception in 1979 was built on a solid team performance that saw them take the lead on the first day. Pedro Tineo stood out then with a round of 67 (-5). On the second day, Pedro improved his score even further: 65 (-7) for a total of -12.

Pedro Tineo has relied on the strong performance of his three partners: Casper Soudant, Sofía Gamilla, and Ana Trujillano. Between them, they have made 492 strokes this weekend.

The second place went to the boys and girls of the Royal Spanish Equestrian Society Country Club (511), led by an inspired Álvaro Mateu (67) on the first day and by Fernando López (73) on the second.

In the battle for third place, shared on Saturday by the Sant Cugat and Costa de Azahar teams, the Castellón team (514) emerged victorious thanks to a combination of 69 strokes (-3) from Graciliano Ballesteros and Andrea Arnal. The top five was completed by Real Club Golf de Manises (517) and Club de Golf Sant Cugat (527).

On an individual level, in addition to those already mentioned from Pedro Tineo, Graciliano Ballesteros or Andrea Arnal, outstanding performances by young talents such as Juan Manuel Carrasco (-4), Lucas Barra (-3), Álvaro Mateu (-3) or Eduardo de la Macorra (-2), who scored a superb 67 in the opening session, should be celebrated.

RCG San Sebastián's dominance in the record books

The record of this prestigious tournament reflects the dominance of RCG San Sebastián, with eleven victories – the last two in 2005 and 2006 – followed by RCG Las Palmas and Costa de Azahar, which have each won five times. Special mention goes to the Castellón club, which has triumphed in four of the last twelve editions, most recently in 2017 with José Luis Ballester, Carla Bernat, José Luis Ventura, and Rocío Tejedo.

Guadalmina, for its part, has finished first three times, while Terramar, Club de Campo de Málaga, RSHECC, Escorpión, and now La Cañada have each won twice. The list is completed by the single victories, so far, of CC Villa de Madrid, Pineda, RCG Tenerife, Zuasti, Ulzama, Vallromanes, Can Cuyás, Mogro, Basozábal, Goiburu, RCG La Herrería, El Bosque, and Vista Hermosa.

Torrequebrada and Guadalhorce, an important part of the tournament's history

Torrequebrada and Real Guadalhorce Golf Club have traditionally been the two clubs that hosted this vibrant competition, with Lauro Golf taking over in recent years.

From 1979 to 2000, this beloved tournament was held at the Torrequebrada Golf Club, also in Málaga. In the following four years, between 2007 and 2015, and again in 2017, Guadalhorce took over the competition, which during those years also traveled to Atalaya (2005), Almenara (2006), and Lauro Golf (2016), which has been the venue since 2018—with the exception of the 2020 cancellation due to the pandemic.
