Una vez concluida la segunda jornada de la Solheim Cup 2013, Europa tiene la victoria en su mano, ya que domina por un claro 5,5-10,5 a falta de la disputa de los individuales. Y en ese fantástico resultado provisional han tenido mucho que ver las golfistas españolas.

La sesión de tarde fue un recital espectacular del cuadro europeo: cuatro victorias en cuatro fourballs. Beatriz Recari y Karine Icher ganaron (1up) a Cristie Kerr y Morgan Pressel, y Azahara Muñoz y Carlota Ciganda –esa pareja que tantas alegrías dio al golf español a nivel amateur- derrotaron en el 18, con un gran birdie de la de Ulzama, a Gerina Piller y Angela Stanford.

In the morning, captain Liselotte Neumann again opted to rest Carlota Ciganda and continued to field the pairs Azahara Muñoz-Karine Icher and Beatriz Recari-Suzann Pettersen, this time without success. The Spanish players lost their close matches, and the morning ended with a 2.5-1.5 score in favor of the home team.

After the first day, Europe led 5-3. Spain's dominance in this leg was total, as the continental team won all three matches in which a Spanish player was involved.

Specifically, Liselotte Neumann booked Carlota Ciganda in the morning and placed her trust in the pairs Azahara Muñoz-Karine Icher and Beatriz Recari-Suzann Pettersen. The former pair won against Christie Kerr and Paula Creamer 2up; while the latter pair also won (2/1 against Brittany Lang and Angela Stanford).

Later in the afternoon, Carlota made her debut. It took her a while to overcome her nerves, but once she did, she was instrumental in securing another point alongside Suzann Pettersen against Stacy Lewis and Lexi Thompson (1up).

Tres españolas en Colorado

Las tres participan en la competición por equipos más relevante del planeta por méritos propios, y no por elección de la capitana Liselotte Neumann. Carlota Ciganda lo hace por su fantástica temporada 2012 en Europa, donde lideró el Orden de Mérito; y Beatriz Recari y Azahara Muñoz lo hacen por Ranking Mundial, en el que han contado sobremanera sus victorias en Estados Unidos.

Estas tres jugadoras españolas están acompañadas en Colorado por Suzann Pettersen, Catriona Matthew y Caroline Masson, que entran a través de Ranking Europeo, de Anna Nordqvist y Karine Icher, que entran por Ranking Mundial, y de Charley Hull, Jodi Ewart, Caroline Hedwall y Giulia Sergas, que son las elecciones de la capitana.

Por otra parte, el cuadro americano está compuesto por Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Angela Stanford, Brittany Lincicome, Lexi Thompson, Jessica Korda, Brittany Lang, Lizette Salas, Morgan Pressel, Gerina Piller y Michelle Wie.
