A complete victory for Antón Pérez and Hugo Carro in the Spanish Doubles Pitch & Putt Championship.

The winning pair has achieved a two-stroke lead over Martín Rosende and Daniel Varela at Compostela Golf.

The Spanish Doubles Pitch & Putt Championship has closed this year's edition with a victory from start to finish for the pair formed by Antón Pérez and Hugo Carro.

The third day of the tournament, played under the Canada Cup format, has delivered its verdict at the Compostela Golf course in A Coruña (Santiago de Compostela) and has crowned a duo that took first place in the foursome round and confirmed it in the fourball round.

The third day was not the most favorable for Antón Pérez and Hugo Carro, but their previous results were enough to ensure their victory was not threatened by the comeback of Martín Rosende and Daniel Varela, the best of the day with a score of 105 strokes.

The pair of Manuel Pena and Enrique Rama also delivered a good final round, with 107 strokes, which has led them to share third place with Simón and Antón Gómez.

Two holes in one for Antón Gómez

Once again, Bodegas Habla has acted as a sponsor of the competition, presenting a valuable Magnum to the players who achieved a hole-in-one during the tournament, which were Antón Gómez twice on holes 8 and 18 during the second day, and Juan Carlos García on hole 14 and also during the second round.

Antón Pérez and Hugo Carro, leaders after the first 36 holes

The Spanish Doubles Pitch & Putt Championship began at Compostela Golf with two rounds, one foursome and one fourball, from which the pair formed by Antón Pérez and Hugo Carro emerged as leaders.

This duo already took the lead in the standings after the first round, with a score of 46 strokes, two less than César Fernández de Caleyna and Bernabé González, and five less than Santiago Regueiro and David Senra, who momentarily completed the podium.

Later, in the fourball round, Antón Pérez and Hugo Carro maintained their lead with a score of 45 and a total of 91, two strokes ahead of César Fernández de Caleyna and Bernabé González, who retained their provisional second place. The third spot, however, went to the pair of Simón and Antón Gómez.

Eighteen years of intense emotions

The Spanish Doubles Pitch & Putt Championship has been held eighteen times to date. José Manuel Carretero, from the Canary Islands, played a prominent role in the first three editions, winning with two different partners. In the inaugural edition (2007), he partnered with Bernabé González, forming an ideal duo at Oasis Golf (Gran Canaria) to defeat María Castillo and Lucía Cortezo. In the following two editions, his partner was Pablo Montesdeoca, with whom he comfortably won two titles.

In 2010, the dominance of José Manuel Carretero was broken by the Galicians Javier Castillo and Francisco Sendón, who outscored the previous champions by twelve strokes at Barbanza Golf (La Coruña).

Since then, the winners have come and gone, with only two pairs managing to repeat their victory: Leonardo Axel Lilja and Antonio Pimentel from Andalusia, winners in 2012 and 2013, and José Ángel Pérez and Fernando Agrelo, winners in the last two editions. Also noteworthy is golfer César Fernández de Caleya, who has won twice (2011 and 2018) with different partners.
