The Amundi Evian Juniors Cup: Spain assembles a strong delegation for this prestigious event

Sofía Gamilla, Cornelia Bermudo, Álvaro Mateu and Sergio Vargas represent Spanish golf on the legendary French course

The Amundi Evian Juniors Cup, a leading tournament in world junior golf held at the legendary Evian Golf Resort (France), celebrates its nineteenth edition from September 22nd to 24th. Spanish golf, as always, participates in the competition with a very promising delegation.

The four players who have traveled to Evian are Sofía Gamilla from Cádiz (a returning player), Cornelia Bermudo from Seville, and Álvaro Mateu and Sergio Vargas from Madrid. Amparo Puig is the captain, and Felipe Rodríguez will be the coach. Xisca Negre, President of the Youth Technical Committee, will also be present in Evian.

As an introduction, it's worth highlighting that these four golfers shone brightly at the Spanish Junior Championship held in June in Cádiz. There, Sofía Gamilla and Sergio Vargas emerged as national champions.

The tournament hosts a total of twenty teams from as many countries around the world, each composed of four players under the age of 15, who will compete in three rounds of 18 holes under the stroke play format on the popular course in eastern France. All participants will compete both individually and as a team.

Two Spanish victories in Evian

Spain is considered one of the tournament's mainstays, thanks to the excellent performance of the various teams sent since 2007, the year the event was founded. In this inaugural edition, Rocío Sánchez from Málaga won the women's category with two rounds of 70 strokes. In the team competition, the Spanish team—comprised of Javier Gallegos from Madrid, Javier Sainz from Biscay, and María Parrón from Murcia—finished second behind the Japanese team.

From that moment on, phenomenal results began to arrive, such as the team titles obtained in 2008, with Adriá Arnaus, Eder Moreno, Harang Lee and Natalia Escuriola, and in 2011 with Martín Larrea, Manuel Elvira, Covadonga Sanjuán and Alejandra Pasarín.

Furthermore, Spain's record in the event includes five silver and two bronze medals in the team competition; in the individual competition, Harang Lee, Nagore Martínez, Jaime Montojo, Álvaro Portillo, Álvaro Revuelta, Arián Rodríguez or more recently Samuel Love, Ángela Revuelta, Martín Cervera and Oliver de Wint have won medals over the years with magnificent performances.
