The third day of the LIV Golf Andalucía 2026 has left a vibrant scenario at the Real Club Valderrama, with Tyrrell Hatton as a solid leader after signing a round of 67 strokes (-4) that put him at -10 in the total, two strokes ahead of the Belgian Thomas Detry.
The Englishman, a recent father and star of Legion XIII, once again demonstrated his ability to compete under pressure, with birdies on holes 1, 5 and 17 and several recoveries of enormous merit that keep him as the main candidate for victory.
Hatton acknowledged after the round that not everything was perfect, but highlighted his accuracy on key putts of less than
three meters, especially on the final holes, crucial to maintaining their lead.
In second place, two strokes back, is Thomas Detry, who matched Hatton's 67 and remains firmly on track for his first LIV Golf victory. The Belgian also maintains his lead in the race for exemption from the LIV Golf Open Championship, adding even more pressure to his final round. Behind them, the individual standings present a distinctly Spanish picture, with Sergio García and Jon Rahm both in contention to climb back up the leaderboard and win in front of their home crowd.
The performance of the five Spaniards was one of the highlights of the day. Sergio García carded a flawless 68 (-3) without a single bogey, a round of immense patience in which his saves on the 6th and 7th holes proved to be the turning point. Three birdies on the back nine propelled him to a total of -6, placing him alone in third and firmly in contention.
Jon Rahm, for his part, also carded a 68 (-3), bringing his total to -5 and tying him for fourth place. The Legion XIII captain shone on the front nine with three birdies, although a less impressive back nine prevented him from closing the gap on the leader.
The third highest-ranked Spaniard was David Puig, who maintained a mid-table position with a consistent lap that leaves him with options to climb on Sunday.
Eugenio López Chacarra, for his part, had an up-and-down round but managed to stay within the top 20, while Carlos Ortiz—Mexican by birth but a regular player in Spain and very popular with the local fans—closed the day with a positive round that keeps him in the upper half of the leaderboard. The Spanish contingent, as a whole, was prominent and fuels the anticipation of a historic Sunday at Valderrama.
Dustin Johnson's spectacular 64-stroke card
As for the team standings, the big blow of the day was delivered by 4Aces GC, led by a tremendous Dustin Johnson, author of the round of the week: a 64 (-7) with a spectacular hole-in-one on the par 3 hole 3 from 186 yards, the eighteenth "ace" in the history of LIV Golf.
With Johnson and Detry both in the individual top 5, 4Aces GC posted a total of -11 for the day, bringing their cumulative total to -12 and giving them a commanding lead heading into Sunday. Legion XIII and Fireballs GC remain mathematically in contention but will need a near-perfect final day.
In short, Sunday promises plenty of excitement at Valderrama, with Hatton, Detry, García, Rahm, and Johnson in a group of five players separated by just five strokes. A perfect end to a week that has kept Spanish fans on the edge of their seats from the very first tee.
