Vincci Valdecañas Golf, in the province of Cáceres, has hosted the Valuation Seminar that is promoted annually by the Courses and Handicap Committee of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation since 2001, the year of its first edition.
The aim is to standardize the criteria of the various RFEG raters, offering the possibility of discussing them with raters from other areas of Spain and comparing them with the Master Raters.
With the presence, on this occasion, of 22 evaluators from different areas of the Spanish geography, the result obtained was very satisfactory, confirming that the Course Evaluation System is being applied correctly in Spanish golf courses.
The seminar structure followed the same format used by the USGA to communicate system updates to its member federations. The first part presented theoretical recommendations and guidelines for evaluating a field, outlining the current calibration system revisions.
The central themes of this year's Field Valuation Seminar have been the treatment of the so-called Transition Zone and the valuation review process.
The second part consisted of distributing the evaluators into teams to carry out the practical evaluation of some holes of the Valdecañas Golf course, to conclude the Seminar by analyzing the results obtained by the different teams and checking their affinity with the system.
The differences between the results obtained by the different teams were very small, reflecting the homogeneity of the criteria by all the evaluators regardless of their area of origin.
Valdecañas Golf is a par 72 course, designed by Alvaro Arana, with wide fairways and challenging greens that make every shot a joy. And not only for its design, but also for its wonderful views of the reservoir, Monfragüe National Park, the Gredos Mountains, and the Sierra de Guadalupe.
