Spain began its journey in the competition with a cumulative score under par (-1), placing it provisionally in fifth position. On a somewhat windy day, this result was mainly due to Marta Muñoz's inspired 69 (-2), in which she only made one bogey. Adriana García Terol also contributed (72, +1), having a well-controlled round – fifteen pars in total – but a bogey on the 18th slightly hampered her performance. Carlota López's 74 (+3) did not count.
A powerful trio for a demanding competition
The Spanish trio consists of Adriana García Terol from Barcelona - who is repeating from last year -, Marta Muñoz from Madrid and Carlota López from Valencia, who come with Mabel Pascual del Pobil, Director of the Women's Amateur Technical Committee, as captain and Álvaro Salto as coach.
Twenty-three teams from twenty-two countries are participating in the competition – Canada will have two teams – with the goal of achieving one of the most beautiful and prestigious victories of the year. The teams representing Argentina, France, New Zealand, Austria, Germany, Norway, Belgium, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Iceland, South Korea, Ireland, Chinese Taipei, Italy, Sweden, Colombia, Mexico, Switzerland, England, Morocco, and the United States are competing.
The competition is played with a system of play identical to that of the Absolute World Championships: four days of Stroke Play in which the two best cards of each of the teams are counted.
