Covadonga Sanjuán, Nuria Iturrios, María Parra, Mario Galiano, Iván Cantero, Xavier Gorospe, Pablo Rodríguez-Tabernero and the new additions of Alejandra Pasarín, Marta Pérez, Ana Peláez and Iñigo López-Pizarro make up the 2014-15 class of golfers who have started working at the Blume National Golf School in Madrid, a class that, from this year, has a satellite Golf School in the city of León, the main novelty related to this working group that forms the basis of the Spanish golf of the future.
In this last case, the selected members to develop their sporting and academic career have been Cecilia Díez Moliner, Rebeca Maruri, Jaime Alzaga, Iñigo Beñarán, Manuel Hernández, Martín Larrea and Francisco Rosete.
The National Centre and the Centre of Excellence, at your service
For the tenth consecutive year, the Madrid group's daily training sessions will take place at the National Golf Centre, one of the many purposes for which it was designed.
In addition, all members of the National School have access, from the beginning of the season, to the Golf Centre of Excellence, a state-of-the-art facility, located on the practice range of the National Centre in Madrid, built with the aim of increasing the number of Spanish players among the top 100 in the World Ranking in both the amateur and professional spheres.
With an impressive combined record, which includes numerous national and international titles of the highest prestige, the new class of the Blume National School of Golf has among its most decorated members Mario Galiano, Alejandra Pasarín and Covadonga Sanjuán.
The man from Cadiz, number 1 in the 2014 European Amateur Ranking, is the only player in the history of Spanish golf to have contributed to winning the European Under 16, Under 18 and Absolute Championships – feats achieved in 2011, 2011 and 2014, respectively – in addition to winning the bronze medal in the recent World Team Championship in Japan.
Alejandra Pasarín, for her part, has won the Spanish Championships Benjamin 2008, Alevín 2010, Infantil 2011 and Sub 18 2014, in addition to embellishing her outstanding record with the title in the prestigious British Girls 2014 or the bronze medal in the European Sub 18 Team Championship 2013, while Covadonga Sanjuán, among many other things, was proclaimed European individual champion Sub 16 in 2012 and 2013.
A technical, physical and psychological team at your disposal
Technical preparation – led by Salva Luna, Marta Figueras-Dotti and Kiko Luna, who divide the boys and girls respectively under the coordination of the former –, physical and psychological preparation, the latter two areas under the responsibility of Francisco Fernández and Óscar del Río, constitute the exhaustive work program, all while they study and complete their respective courses thanks to a timetable that combines both activities, a solid team that is completed with Ignacio Gervás and Laura Moreno as technical director and coordinator of the Blume National Golf School in Madrid, respectively.
Educational and sporting compatibility
The approach is, once again, unidirectional: to train good people and athletes through a plan of activities developed in state-of-the-art facilities that allow the practice of golf at the highest level.
These scholarships are exclusively aimed at young players who, according to the technical criteria of the RFEG, have a relevant sporting potential, bearing in mind that for the renewal of the aforementioned scholarships it is essential that the student passes the academic year.
Likewise, all members of the Blume National School in Madrid attend their corresponding classes daily, like any other student, in a specialized subsidized center that allows them to combine schedules with morning technical training (from 11:00 to 14:00) and afternoon physical training.
To maintain a competitive edge at the highest level, the RFEG encourages these promising young athletes to participate in various competitions every weekend possible. Furthermore, they all undergo a thorough medical and psychological evaluation, and the results, along with any necessary treatments or dietary adjustments to optimize their performance at all levels, are communicated to their families.
León, new branch of the National Golf School
New this year is the National Golf School of León, which will become a breeding ground for young players in the coming years, just as the National School of Madrid has been doing in recent years.
The creation of the National Golf School of León represents a magnificent opportunity for those players who have not had the opportunity to enter the Blume in Madrid, since its members follow exactly the same program as their counterparts in the capital of Spain.
In this project, in which the various Autonomous Federations and the Higher Sports Council also participate jointly with the RFEG, the selected players are provided with academic training at the Colegio Leonés – a center with more than 100 years of history that has historically been a breeding ground for great athletes – and sports training at the facilities of the High Performance Center of León and at the León Golf Club, two references in the area.
The newly created High Performance Center will allow indoor training on days with adverse weather conditions, while the León Golf Club boasts a renowned course with a driving range and a large putting green.
The Blume School in León opens this season with 16 and 17-year-old players who have excelled in recent years: Cecilia Díez Moliner from Valladolid, Manuel Hernández and Rebeca Maruri from Galicia, Jaime Alzaga from León, Iñigo Beñarán and Martín Larrea from Gipuzkoa, and Francisco Rosete from Asturias.
In León, Jorge García is the main technical director, Juan Carlos Redondo is in charge of physical conditioning, and Alberto Díaz Bravo handles coordination. At both centers, the players work on their psychological development with Óscar del Río.
