Effective January 1, 2022, the World Anti-Doping Agency will prohibit the use of glucocorticoids by any injectable route. This change means that all injectable routes of administration will be considered PROHIBITED.
These routes include: intravenous, intramuscular, periarticular, intra-articular, peritendinous, intratendinous, epidural, intrathecal, intrabursal, intralesional (e.g., intrakeloid), intradermal, and subcutaneous.
Oral routes of administration include: oral mucosa, buccal mucosa, gingival mucosa, and sublingual mucosa. The dental canal route is not prohibited.
Other routes of administration (including topical: inhaled, intranasal, ophthalmic, perianal and dermal) are not prohibited when used according to the doses and therapeutic indications indicated by the manufacturer.
If you are an athlete included in the Individualized Monitoring Group, you must request, where applicable, a Therapeutic Use Authorization.
If you are not part of any Monitoring Group, you may need to apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption retroactively. In any case, as always, you must declare any medication you are taking when undergoing a doping control and keep the documentation.
