Nieves Martín and Tomás Beguiristain, both from Gipuzkoa, have been named Players of the Term at the Blume National Golf Schools in Madrid and León, respectively, an award that recognizes their merits at the sporting, academic and other levels.
Nieves Martín, a player from RNCGSS Basozabal, is enjoying her first year in Madrid after having previously spent one in León. This year she has made a significant leap in quality, culminating in a dominant victory at the Madrid Championship held at the Santander Golf Course.
Tomás Beguiristain, for his part, has started this year at the Blume School in León, and has gotten off to a good start. His sixth place in the Barcelona Championship and his seventh in the Canary Islands Championship are not a fluke, but rather the result of solid daily work.
Patricia Garre and María Villanueva, recognized in the first quarter
In the first quarter of the 2018/19 academic year, Patricia Garre from Murcia and María Villanueva from Gipuzkoa were named Players of the Quarter in Madrid and León, respectively, thus being rewarded for their good start to the season.
Patricia Garre, in her second season at the school, achieved her most resounding victory to date in December. It came at the 'Celia Barquín Memorial' Principality of Asturias Cup, a qualifying event for the Women's World Ranking and the 2019 National Absolute and Under-18 Rankings.
In that same race, María Villanueva finished sixth, also enjoying her second season with the club. The Basque rower also contributed to her team's victory, representing RNCSS Basozábal, in the Spanish Women's Interclub Championship.
Much more than a sporting award
The Player of the Quarter is chosen not only for their results in the tournaments they participate in – which, obviously, is a criterion to be taken into account – but also for other merits acquired in the sporting arena: good attitude on the course, respect for their playing partners, proper care and maintenance of both shared and personal equipment,…
In addition to these purely sporting criteria, this designation recognizes other merits that are equally valuable in the boys and girls who are part of both schools: academic performance, good behavior with classmates and coaches, not using mobile phones at certain times and places, attitude at school,…
According to coaches, teachers, and trainers, these players have excelled in all these areas. Congratulations!
