The 2026 European Senior Men's and Women's Individual Championships have concluded at the Cypriot Eléa Golf Club with an outstanding performance by Natalia Martínez-Reboredo, who achieved the best result of the Spanish team initially composed of four women and two men.
The Galician golfer finished her round with a score of 78 (+4), improving by one stroke on her previous day's result. Although this score didn't allow her to climb the standings, it did secure her a brilliant eighth place overall, a position of enormous value in a competition that brought together the best senior players on the continent.
The other Spanish woman who managed to make the cut, María Carmen Mendaro, repeated her score of 79 strokes (+5) from the second day and with a total of 241 strokes, finished sharing twenty-second position.
The women's title went to France's Jordane Court, after beating her compatriot Benjamine Bouillounnec on the first playoff hole after both finished tied with 224 strokes.
In the men's category, Álvaro Martínez-Rumbo once again proved to be Spain's leading contender. The Galician player, the only Spanish representative to make the cut and reach the final round, was unable to improve upon his 41st place starting in the last round, ultimately finishing in 49th position in a highly competitive tournament.
The victory went to Englishman Stephen Creed, who carded a final round of 68 strokes (-3) to win with a total of 207 strokes (-6), four less than Frenchman Rodrigo Lacerda, who finished second.
Interestingly, Natalia Martínez-Reboredo and Álvaro Martínez-Rumbo, the two most outstanding Spaniards of the week, are cousins and both belong to the Real Club de Golf La Coruña.
Natalia Martínez-Reboredo set the course from the beginning
The first day already hinted at Natalia Martínez-Reboredo's potential. Her round of 75 strokes (+1) placed her near the top of the leaderboard, surpassed by only two players. Meanwhile, two-time tournament champion Macarena Campomanes began the championship with a round of 78 strokes (+6).
In the men's category, Álvaro Martínez-Rumbo was also the most inspired Spaniard in the championship's opening round, delivering a card of 75 strokes (+4).
The second day reinforced the aspirations of the Galician player, who, despite losing some positions, remained within the top ten thanks to a card of 79 strokes (+5) and an accumulated total of 154 strokes (+6), enough to face the final round from eighth position.
Swiss player Geraldine Dondit then took the lead after climbing five places and reaching a total of 146 strokes (-2).
Among the other Spanish players, María Carmen Mendaro made the cut, while Teresa Zayas missed it by just one stroke despite climbing twelve places in the standings. The most disappointing moment came with the withdrawal of Macarena Campomanes, a two-time champion of the event.
In the men's competition, Álvaro Martínez-Rumbo was once again the best of the Spanish representatives. With a second consecutive round of 75 strokes (+4), he shared 41st place and secured his place in the final round, becoming the only Spaniard to make the cut.
Very close to joining him was Alfonso Erhardt, who signed an excellent round of 73 strokes (+1) and staged a comeback of twelve positions, although he was just one stroke away from reaching the final round.
