Maria Vittoria Corbi opens her professional career with an undeniable victory at the Santander Golf Tour La Coruña

The Italian put on a dazzling display at Golf Xaz and withstood the final pressure from Ana Pina of Andalusia.

Maria Vittoria Corbi claimed her first professional title on Thursday, winning the Santander Golf Tour La Coruña 2026 at Golf Xaz. The Italian capped off an outstanding week at the A Coruña course, which was making its debut this season as a venue for the tour and witnessed a spectacular performance from the Roman golfer in a final round full of excitement, twists and turns, and shots of exceptional quality.

The day began with Corbi, Emma Lundgren, and Ana Pina sharing the featured group. The Roman and the Venetian started with a one-stroke lead over the Sevillian, two over Elena Melich (-2), and three over Alicia Fajardo (-1), as well as a four-stroke advantage over a chasing group made up of Teresa Díez Moliner, Jae Bowers, and Clara Moyano, all of whom were at even par.

From the outset, Corbi displayed remarkable composure on a crucial day that dawned completely different from Wednesday, with overcast skies and heavier conditions on the course. The Italian began with three consecutive pars on the 1st through 3rd holes, avoiding risks and managing the early holes intelligently.

The first significant move came on the par-4 4th hole. After a magnificent second shot, the Roman golfer converted the birdie to take the sole lead at five under par. She then strung together three consecutive pars between the 5th and 7th holes before adding a bogey on the 8th to drop back to -4.

Far from crumbling at the first tricky moment of the day, Corbi responded by displaying the best version of her game. The Italian then began a veritable masterclass from the tee and especially with her irons, definitively taking control of the tournament.

Having momentarily relinquished her lead to Ana Pina, the Italian rolled up her sleeves and delivered one of the shots of the day on the 9th hole. From the fairway, she created a clear birdie opportunity to return to -5. At that same moment, Pina, who was provisionally leading by one stroke, also had a good birdie chance to extend her lead, but an unexpected three-putt dropped her back to -4 and allowed the Roman to regain the lead.

But Corbi wasn't going to stop there. The Italian had a dazzling start to the second round, taking advantage of every opportunity that came her way thanks to several extraordinary iron shots and very solid putting.

First, she took advantage of the short par-5 10th hole to add another birdie. Then, she attacked the par-3 11th and the par-4 12th with great precision to string together two more consecutive birdies and reach eight under par, opening up a four-stroke lead over Ana Pina, who saw victory slowly slipping away.

However, the tournament still had plenty of excitement in store for the finale. Corbi's winning streak came to a halt on the 13th hole, where he carded his first bogey of a back nine that, up to that point, had been near perfect. Between the 14th and 16th holes, he managed to maintain control with three consecutive pars, although another bogey on the 17th brought Pina right back into contention.

The Sevillian, who had reacted with birdies on holes 14 and 16, was just one stroke behind the Italian when both reached the 18th tee. After having had a four-stroke lead, Corbi faced the last hole of the tournament with everything still to be decided.

With nerves on edge, Pina risked everything, aiming to reach the green in two strokes on the final par 5, but a mistake with her wood on the second shot ultimately doomed her chances. The Sevillian would end up carding a bogey, while Corbi secured the par needed to clinch the first professional victory of her career with a two-stroke lead.

At the end of the day, the champion expressed her happiness after the victory. "I'm so happy to have my first professional win. Of course, doing it here in Spain makes it even more special. I live here with Emma, I train here... and there's obviously a unique connection. I love the country, its people...".

Corbi wanted to dedicate a few words to Emma Lundgren, with whom she shared the star match throughout the day. "It was a pleasure to achieve my first victory sharing a match with her. She's my friend, and a victory like this tastes even sweeter.".

The Italian also wanted to highlight the condition of the A Coruña course and the work of the host club. "Golf Xaz will forever remain in my memory. The course was immaculate and the service from all the staff was incredible.".

Finally, Clara Moyano from Madrid finished third at even par, while Teresa Díez Moliner and Emma Lundgren shared fourth place at +2. The Venetian was unable to maintain the excellent level she showed during the first day, although she closely accompanied her friend and partner on the most important day of her still short professional career.

The third event of the Santander Golf Tour 2026 will take place in just two weeks, specifically on May 27th and 28th, at the Larrabea Golf course in Álava.
