Manuel Elvira came within a whisker of opening his DP World Tour account in style. The Cantabrian golfer finished second in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club after leading going into the 18th hole. An unfortunate turn of events on that hole—a double bogey—handed the victory to American JJ Spaun.

Elvira finished the tournament at -15, the same as Aaron Rai, Rory McIlroy, and Adam Scott. None of them came as close to victory as the Spaniard, who will have to take the best of the week: four rounds under par and the certainty that he's ready to compete with the very best.

Alex del Rey, fifteenth with -12, has also shone this week.

Another of our players with a chance this Sunday was Joseba Torres, in his case at the Portugal Open, part of the HotelPlanner Tour. The Basque (-18 overall) shared tenth place with Albert Boneta, far behind the Dane Sebastian Friedrichsen (-28), who blew the tournament apart with a superb 62.

Pablo Ereño, second in the Road to Mallorca, did not play this week.

Another cut for Carla Bernat

Already sporting the symbolic title of winner, Carla Bernat has returned to competition on the Epson Tour. Ranked fourth, the Castellón native tackled the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout alongside Teresa Toscano. Bernat (+11 overall) made the cut, but her performance improved throughout the event, ultimately finishing in 62nd place.

And on the other hand, and apart from La Sella Open, a LET event about which full information is offered on this website, the LETAS has decided the Lavaux Ladies Open, with the Basque golfer María Villanueva as the most outstanding player.
