Madrid defeats Castilla y León and is crowned Spanish Pitch & Putt Champion 2026

The Madrid team won 2.5-0.5 in the Bil Bil Golf grand final, culminating a tournament in which they had to overcome two agonizing knockout rounds.

Madrid has been proclaimed champion of the 2026 Spanish Pitch & Putt Autonomous Federations Championship after decisively beating Castilla y León 2.5-0.5 in the grand final played at Bil Bil Golf (Benalmádena, Málaga).

Javier Niederleytner and Luis Montero, both from Madrid, paved the way for Madrid by defeating Fernando Cabezudo and Samuel Nieto 1 up in the foursome, and secured their victory in the first singles match thanks to Miguel García Sánchez, who defeated Alberto de Antonio 2 up. In the second singles match, with the outcome already decided, Óscar Leiva and José María Ortiz de Pinedo finished in a tie.

Thus, Madrid put the finishing touch on a competition in which they improved as it progressed and demonstrated their strength both in moments of maximum equality and in the decisive match.

Madrid's dominant performance in the final contrasted sharply with the difficult path they had to travel to get there. In both the quarterfinals and semifinals, the Madrid team was forced to resort to tiebreakers after their matches ended with 1.5 points each.

The semifinal against the Balearic Islands, the defending champions, was particularly intense. The island team took the lead thanks to Hugo Kestas Nustedt and José Manuel Pulido's victory in the foursome against Javier Niederleytner and Luis Montero by 1 up. Madrid responded with Miguel García Sánchez's win over Astin Richard Nustedt by 2 up, while Óscar Leiva and Nicasio Domínguez drew their singles match. The 1.5-1.5 scoreline ultimately gave the Madrid team the victory, eliminating the 2025 champions from title contention.

Earlier, in the quarterfinals, Madrid had already had to endure a tough match against the Canary Islands, another tie decided after a 1.5-point draw. Two extremely close matches that made the superiority shown in the final even more significant.

Castile and León once again fell just short.

Castilla y León had also reached the title match after overcoming a highly charged semifinal against Cantabria. Fernando Cabezudo and Samuel Nieto secured the first point for their team with a decisive 6-5 victory in the foursome against Carlos de Diego and Jesús San Emeterio.

Cantabria responded with Germán Gutiérrez's victory over Alberto de Antonio by 1 up, while José María Ortiz de Pinedo and Sergio Alonso tied in the second singles match. The 1.5-1.5 score ultimately allowed Castilla y León to advance to the final.

The Castile and León team also arrived with an outstanding track record in the tournament. Champion in 2023, runner-up in 2024, and third in 2025, they were seeking their second title at Bil Bil Golf. Madrid, however, gave them no chance in the decisive match, and the 2.5-0.5 scoreline confirmed a clear victory for Madrid.

Cantabria completed the podium

The final day also served to determine the rest of the standings. Cantabria secured third place after defeating the Balearic Islands 2-1, leaving the reigning champions in fourth.

The Canary Islands secured fifth place after beating Galicia 2-1, while the Principality of Asturias finished seventh thanks to their victory, also 2-1, against Murcia.

In the second Flight, Castilla-La Mancha secured ninth place by defeating Andalusia 2-1. The Valencian Community claimed eleventh place with a decisive 2.5-0.5 victory over La Rioja; Aragon finished thirteenth after beating the Basque Country 2-1, and Navarre concluded its participation in fifteenth position after defeating Extremadura 3-0.
