Macarena Campomanes begins her title defense this Friday at the Spanish Senior Women's Individual Championship, which she brilliantly won last year. The Costa Ballena Ocean Golf Club (Rota, Cádiz) will host a tournament with a very attractive field, as the 104 entrants include some of the best players in the category in recent years.
Macarena Campomanes (exact handicap 0), winner on three occasions, tops the list along with the Belgian golfer Sylvie van Molle (+1.3), winner in March in the Women's Senior National Grand Prix precisely ahead of the Madrid native.
The tournament boasts a strong roster of golfers who carry the label of European team champions. These include: María Castillo (2), Natalia Martínez-Reboredo (2), María de Orueta (2.1), Soledad Fernández de Araoz (2.7), Mónica Jessen (4.6), and Xonia Wunsch (5.3). Five of them have also been Spanish champions at least once.
In total, there are 104 golfers vying for the title in a tournament played over 54 holes of Stroke Play (stroke game) in three consecutive days with a cut at the end of the second round in 72nd place.
Fourth qualifying event for the National Senior Ranking
This is the fourth and final qualifying event for the 2026 National Senior Women's Ranking. The first was the Spanish Individual International, held in February at Mediterráneo Golf (Castellón) with María Castillo, tenth, as the best Spanish player; afterwards, the aforementioned Guadalhorce National Senior Women's Grand Prix (Málaga) and the Spanish Mid Amateur Championship at Lauro Golf (Málaga) were played, with Macarena Campomanes in second position.
