The prestigious Penn State University, in the US state of Pennsylvania, hosted a talk – given by David Gómez, head of the Green Section of the RFEG – to publicize the actions developed to make golf more sustainable in Spain.

The conference, held at the TurfClub, was aimed at first and second year students related to the maintenance of golf courses, making known what are the fundamental pillars of work of the Green Section in our country.

The presentation focused on several key areas where the Green Section concentrates its efforts: the development of public courses, the environment, construction, and tournaments. It also detailed how these areas are further divided into short-, medium-, and long-term projects.

In this last group, it is worth highlighting the training of new professionals through collaborative scholarships with renowned academic institutions such as Penn State University, Michigan State University and Elmwood College.

Regarding medium and short-term actions, three priority challenges were identified:

. Reduction of energy costs through the use of sustainable and efficient practices to minimize energy consumption on golf courses.

. Reduction in maintenance costs.

. Reduction in the use of pesticides, committed to environmental sustainability.

The audience showed great interest in the working methodology of the RFEG's Green Section and its leadership in the golf industry in terms of sustainability and collaboration with universities. This approach, still novel and under development in the United States, generated considerable interest among those present.

The meeting reflects the commitment of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation to sustainable development, the training of new professionals and excellence in the management of golf courses in Spain.
