The Royal Spanish Golf Federation, through its Green Section, has participated in the international meeting “Golf & Nature Live 2026”, organized by the R&A in St Andrews, a forum focused on sustainability, biodiversity and environmental management applied to golf.
During the various working days, federations, researchers, greenkeepers, universities and environmental officials from different countries met to share experiences and analyze the main future challenges of golf related to sustainability, climate resilience, biodiversity, efficient resource management and conservation of the natural environment.
The meeting provided an opportunity to learn about various international projects related to ecological restoration, coastal area management, biodiversity data collection, environmental monitoring, and new sustainable maintenance strategies for golf courses.
Likewise, the different working groups highlighted the importance of collaboration between federations, clubs, universities and administrations to continue moving towards a more sustainable golf model that is aligned with current environmental needs.
During the program, the recognition being given to the work developed in Spain at both the management and greenkeeping levels was also highlighted, especially in aspects related to water efficiency, resource optimization, technical training, agronomic innovation and sustainable adaptation of maintenance.
David Gómez Agüera, Director of the Green Section of the RFEG, highlighted after the meeting that “it has been a very enriching experience to be able to share knowledge with professionals from different countries and to see how international golf is working to integrate sustainability, biodiversity and sporting excellence.
I sincerely believe that after all the investment the Royal Spanish Golf Federation has made over the years in training, education, knowledge transfer and research, today we are seeing those efforts reflected in the quality of Spanish greenkeeping and also in the way our courses are addressing sustainability and biodiversity.”
The RFEG's participation in Golf & Nature Live reinforces the Federation's commitment to a modern, responsible and sustainable golf model, where environmental management and conservation of the environment are an essential part of the sport's future.
