On October 13, 2020, almost three years ago, the Ladies European Tour officially announced that Spain would host the 2023 Solheim Cup at the Finca Cortesín course in Malaga. At that time, the exact dates were still to be confirmed, but they were announced shortly afterward: September 22-24, 2023. This marked the beginning of an exciting journey that has now culminated in a thrilling reality.

Dozens and dozens of intermediate steps, determined support from the entire Spanish golf community and the institutions that surround it have finally converged on the spectacular tee of hole 1 at Finca Cortesín, the starting point of the most important women's golf duel in the world between the teams of Europe and the United States.

From 08:10 am - the start of the first doubles match between the Swedes Maja Stark – Linn Grant and the Americans Lexi Thompson – Meghan Khang - until 08:46 am, you can enjoy, from the stands strategically located at the start of the course, more conservative shots or much riskier ones, directly to a green defended by bunkers and water, at 240 meters.

Carlota Ciganda's wish, the only Spanish woman present in the European team, expressed on Wednesday – “I want to see the stands of the 1st tee full, roaring” – was already staged in the last round of training when the Navarrese golfer, accompanied by some of her teammates, tested her ability to reach the goal.

The stands literally roared with each shot from the players, and the roar continued afterward, fueled by the sea of people following the matches across the various holes of the Malaga course. The vibrant atmosphere, the great ambiance, the desire to have a good time and enjoy every second of this Solheim Cup have been palpable for several days now in every corner of Finca Cortesín.

Even before it begins, the Solheim Cup has become a celebration that extends far beyond the boundaries of the golf course. The opening ceremony, for example, was moved to the bullring in Puerto Banús, the perfect setting to showcase the essence of Andalusia, the essence of Spain, to the many Spaniards and foreigners who will be attending the tournament.

The captains of the two teams, Suzzan Pettersen and Stacey Lewis, announced the order and composition of the first four doubles matches, an appetizer for a fight for victory that promises to be exciting.

The square was filled with applause, emotion, and feeling. It wasn't a bullfight; it was the opening ceremony of the Solheim Cup, which has been stirring passions for almost three years.

Because this Solheim Cup is much more than the most important women's golf tournament in the world; it's the catalyst for a legacy that will last for years to come in our country. September 22, 2023, 8:10 a.m. Almost three years after the official announcement, the great Solheim Cup battle is finally here. Let's enjoy it! Go Girls! Let the show begin!
