The 2020/21 season has begun for the players of the Blume National School, both for those training at the Madrid headquarters - which has already seen 31 graduating classes - and for those training at the León headquarters, which has been operating since 2014. In total, seven new faces are joining the project in this very unusual season.
At the Blume center in Madrid, which has seen the likes of Jon Rahm, Azahara Muñoz, Jorge Campillo, Pablo Martín and María Hernández, the new additions are Ángel Ayora from Málaga and Paula Balanzategui from Gipuzkoa, who come to fill the gaps left by Constanza Guerrero, Ainhoa Gurrutxaga, Nieves Martín, Odette Font and Javier Neira after a productive journey in which they have accumulated learning and experience.
Daniel Robles, Eduardo de los Ríos, Juan Luis de Bethencourt, Ana Pina, Julia López, Marta López and Lucía López, all players with ample experience in the main national competitions, remain in Madrid.
It should be noted that this year, in order to adapt operations to the health requirements caused by the pandemic, the number of scholarships at the Blume Residence for all sports has been temporarily reduced.
For the sixteenth consecutive year, the daily training sessions of the Madrid group are held at the National Golf Centre, one of the many purposes for which it was designed.
Five changes in León
More changes have taken place at the sister center in León. Ignacio Cervera, Pablo Rebolleda, and Álvaro Ruiz de Huidobro remain with the group, and Ángel Soria from Albacete, Ángel Pérez from Murcia, José María Rozas from Salamanca, and Mar García and Rebeca Fernández from Málaga have joined.
The Blume National School in León, now in its seventh year, is a joint project with the Royal Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG), the various regional federations, and the Spanish Sports Council. Selected players receive athletic training at the León High-Performance Center and the León Golf Club, and academic instruction at the Colegio Leonés, a school with over 100 years of history.
The High Performance Centre allows for indoor training on days with adverse weather conditions, while the León Golf Club boasts a renowned course with a driving range and a large putting green.
In addition, all members of the National School have access, from the beginning of the season, to the Golf Centre of Excellence, a state-of-the-art facility, located on the practice range of the National Centre in Madrid, built with the aim of increasing the number of Spanish players among the top 100 in the World Ranking in both the amateur and professional spheres.
The best professionals at your service
The players from both schools have everything they need to focus on both their athletic and academic pursuits. On a daily basis, the Madrid team benefits from the coordination of Laura Moreno, who ensures that everything, starting with the schedules, runs like clockwork. In León, Alberto Díaz performs this role with equal success.
Salva Luna, Director of the National School, Kiko Luna, Álvaro Salto and Jorge García are the technical managers, called upon to continue training the players on the field.
At both schools, the psychological aspect is handled by a highly experienced professional like Óscar del Río, while Paco Fernández and Álvaro Gil are responsible for providing students with the necessary tools to achieve optimal physical fitness. Overall coordination is the responsibility of Ignacio Gervás, Sports Director of the RFEG (Royal Spanish Golf Federation).
