The seventeenth edition of the Spanish Senior Men's Pitch & Putt Championship has concluded at the Masía de las Estrellas course in Valencia with the victory of Juan Pardo.
The golfer from the Castilla La Mancha Golf Club has signed a final round of 50 strokes, which has allowed him to climb six places in the standings and take advantage of the fact that the leader, Nicasio Domingo, has handed in a card of 57 strokes.
With these numbers, Juan Pardo has taken the victory with one stroke less than Nicasio Domingo, while Javier Niederleytner, the defending champion, and Rafael Santonja, have shared third place three strokes behind the winner.
A first day marked by equality
This Spanish Senior Men's Pitch & Putt Championship began in Levante with the first day of competition, in which, as usual, two rounds were played.
In the first 18 holes, Fabián Herráiz and Nicasio Domingo shared the top spot in the standings with rounds of 53 strokes each, and after the second round, Nicasio Domingo was left alone in the lead after a card of 54 strokes for a total of 107 strokes.
Behind the player from the Pollensa Golf Club was Rafael Santonja with one more stroke, and Carlos Gómez and Javier Niederleytner, with two more strokes.
A list of winners dominated by five golfers
Juan Pardo adds his name to the list of winners of a tournament in which five golfers stand out, since until 2022 this event combined male and female categories: Pía Allende and Laura Batista, winners on three occasions, and Alejandro Muñoz, and Rafael Santonja and Juan Fernández-Ardavín, winners twice.
Focusing on the men's competition, the first winner, in 2009, was Alejandro Muñoz, who repeated his victory just one year later. Subsequent wins came from Juan Ortín, José López, Antonio Fernández, José Ángel Pérez, Francisco José Cisneros, Ángel Ríos, Rafael Santonja, Juan Fernández-Ardavín (both on two occasions), Fernando Cabezudo, Rafael Canomanuel, Marcos Gómez, and Javier Niederleytner.
