The first edition of the Castilla y León Pitch & Putt Cup has concluded at the Sotoverde Golf Course with a resounding victory for José María Ortiz de Pinedo, as the player from Valladolid achieved a lead of six strokes over César Fernández de Caleya, second place, while the third place went to Rafael Santonja, with seven strokes more than the winner.
In this way, José María Ortiz de Pinedo has managed to be a prophet in his own land and add this triumph to the one achieved in the Spanish Pitch & Putt Championship, held just two months ago in the Canary Islands.
José María Ortiz de Pinedo started the day with a two-stroke lead over César Fernández de Caleya, and with a final round of 50 strokes, he managed to increase his advantage and finish with a total of 149 strokes.
José María Ortiz de Pinedo, first leader of the tournament
The Sotoverde Golf Course, in the province of Valladolid, raised the curtain on the 1st Pitch & Putt Cup of Castilla y León, the third qualifying event for the National Ranking of this golf specialty in 2026, with the participation of a total of 77 players.
Among them, José María Ortiz de Pinedo took center stage, after climbing to the top of the leaderboard with two rounds of 52 and 47 strokes for a total of 99.
With those results, the player from the Aldeamayor Golf Club achieved a two-stroke advantage over César Fernández de Caleya, another of the outstanding names in the specialty, who delivered two partials of 47 and 54 strokes.
The provisional podium of the event was completed by Noel Calzadilla and Miguel Martín, with a double 52 for the former and two rounds of 55 and 49 for the latter and a total of 104 strokes.
As has been the norm in recent years, the tournaments that count towards the National Ranking are held in three rounds: the first two are played on Saturday and the third on Sunday morning.
And once again, Bodegas Habla is sponsoring the competition, giving away a valuable Magnum to players who achieve a hole-in-one on both days.
Five events make up the National Ranking
The 2026 National Pitch & Putt Ranking consists of five events: the Spanish Individual Championships and the three National Zonal Qualifying Tournaments. The Men's Spanish Championship resulted in the aforementioned victory for José María Ortiz de Pinedo, while the Women's Championship will be played on October 24th and 25th at JAS Colmenar Golf (Madrid).
The first National Zonal qualifying event, held at Bil Bil Golf (Malaga), concluded with a victory for Marcos Gomez, while the third will be held on June 13 and 14 at Paderne Golf (La Coruña).
