Jorge Campillo secured second place this Sunday at the Soudal Open in Belgium, a tournament on the DP World Tour. The Spaniard from Extremadura relied on his characteristic consistency to finish the week at -16, just two strokes behind the winner, South African Richard Sterne.
It's a shame about his four bogeys between holes 10 and 14 this Sunday; a better result in that stretch would have put him right in the fight for what would have been his fourth victory on the circuit.
Juan Salama, from Madrid, has produced another of the best Spanish stories of the weekend on the professional circuits. His third-place finish with a score of -16 at the Danish Golf Challenge is his best result in his still short career on this tour. He was just two strokes away from the playoff for the title.
Salama led the first day with an excellent 65 (the result, among other things, of two impressive eagles) and thanks to his subsequent rounds of 70, 66, and 71 strokes, he never dropped out of the top positions. Javier Barcos, eighth with -14, also had a good week.
More good news for Spanish golf, this time from Jorge Maicas (-10) of Aragon, who came close to winning his second Alps Tour title, this time at the French Lacanau Alps Open. Alberto Domínguez, Víctor García Broto, and Pablo Alperi shared seventh place at -8.
Good week for Luna Sobrón in Morocco
Another highlight of the week was Morocco, with two tournaments. In the Lalla Meryem Cup, Luna Sobrón finished strong, placing fourteenth at -2 after rounds of 71 and 74. In the other, the Champions Tour's Trophy Hassan II, Chema Olazábal (-1) secured a Top 25 finish.
