The Omega European Masters, one of the oldest competitions on the DP World Tour - dating back to 1972 - has produced some interesting results for the Spanish Armada; the fourth place shared by Ángel Hidalgo, Eugenio López Chacarra and Ángel Ayora was the result of an excellent weekend of golf.
These three golfers had a chance at the title at the start of Sunday, as did Nacho Elvira, and they performed admirably, posting low rounds to stay in contention. Their -16 score wasn't enough to win because three other players performed exceptionally well, with special mention going to Thriston Lawrence and Paul Casey (-18).
In Spanish terms, it is worth highlighting Hidalgo's 64 (-6) to finish.
It is also worth highlighting the participation of Miguel Ángel Jiménez, winner of the tournament in 2010, who this week completed his 725th appearance on the circuit. The Andalusian golfer has a special connection with this tournament and with the beautiful course at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, where Seve Ballesteros, Chema Olazábal, Manolo Piñero, and Sergio García have also won titles.
More positive news, this time from the Alps Tour, which has returned to action. At the Longwy Alps Open in France, Alejandro Rodríguez and Alberto Domínguez finished in second place, a considerable distance behind Frenchman Alexandre Vandermoten. Eleven strokes separated the leader from his pursuers. Eduard Rousaud, Pablo Alperi, and Esteban Vázquez also achieved top-10 finishes.
In addition, in the Rosa Challenge Tour, part of the HotelPlanner Tour, Santiago Tarrío (-6) secured a solid fifteenth place.
It is worth remembering that professional women's golf has been preparing this week ahead of the imminent Solheim Cup in the Netherlands (September 11-13).
