The Alps Tour returns to Castilla y León this week with the Alps de Las Castillas tournament, which will be held from July 9 to 11 at Golf Lerma, one of the most renowned venues of a well-established event within the European development circuit calendar.

Golf Lerma is once again hosting the Alps de Las Castillas for the third time, following the editions held in 2016 and 2024. The Burgos course also holds a prominent place in the tournament's history, as it was the site of victories by Frenchman Victor Perez, current DP World Tour player and winner of three tournaments on the circuit, and Spaniard Albert Boneta, winner of the edition held at Golf Lerma in 2024.

Throughout its history, the championship has also been held at other courses in Castilla y León and Castilla-La Mancha, becoming one of the most recognized competitions of the Alps Tour and a launching pad for numerous players who have made the leap to circuits such as the HotelPlanner Tour and the DP World Tour.

Designed by the prestigious Spanish architect Pepe Gancedo, Golf Lerma blends seamlessly into the Castilian landscape. In fact, when he first visited the land where he would later build the course, Gancedo summed up its potential with a phrase that still forms part of the club's identity: "The course was already made; God made it.".

Golf Lerma is a place of sweeping Castilian horizons, native vegetation, and a topography seemingly designed by nature itself. The course, just under 6,000 meters long, combines scenic beauty with a challenging playing style in an environment where each hole blends harmoniously into the landscape.

Throughout its 18 holes, holm oaks, junipers, and oaks accompany the player on a course where it's not unusual to encounter hares or watch ducks and geese flying over the eight lakes and two streams that are part of the landscape. This unique setting makes nature an integral part of the playing experience and reflects the club's commitment to conservation and respect for the environment.

Sustainability will also be a key focus of this edition. Both the organizers and the host club have worked to minimize the tournament's environmental impact through efficient resource management and a strong commitment to environmental conservation—a philosophy increasingly prevalent in modern golf and fully aligned with the values of the Alps Tour.

This commitment is part of Golf Lerma's overall environmental strategy. The club has developed a self-consumption project based on solar energy that covers a significant portion of its energy needs, contributing to a reduction in electricity consumption and the facility's carbon footprint. In addition, it has various solar panel installations dedicated to generating hot water, supplying electricity to different infrastructures on the course, and operating the well water extraction systems, thus reinforcing a more efficient and sustainable management of resources.

On the sporting front, the Alps de Las Castillas will bring together 144 players from 13 nationalities, reflecting the international character of the circuit and its role as a development platform for future European golf professionals.

Many of the participants are looking to consolidate their position in the season's ranking at a crucial time in the calendar, when the fight for promotion and for the top positions in the Order of Merit enters its most demanding phase, as two of the five available places are already secured by Italians Andrea Romano and Maxime Legros after their three victories this season, so the players are competing for the three remaining places.

The tournament also represents an important opportunity to further promote sports and tourism in the province of Burgos and Castilla y León, bringing professional golf closer to new audiences and generating economic activity in the surrounding area.

With a course that is already part of the history of the Alps de Las Castillas, a privileged natural environment and a key week within the Alps Tour season, Golf Lerma is preparing to once again welcome some of the greatest promises of European golf.

The Alps de las Castillas, which will be held from July 9 to 11 at Golf Lerma, is sponsored by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation with the Castilla-León Golf Federation, the Castilla-La Mancha Golf Federation, Loterías y Apuestas del Estado with the support of the Higher Sports Council, Alps Tour, Burgos Provincial Council, Costa del Sol Tourism and Planning, Bodegas Juan Gil, Kyocera, Mahou San Miguel, Solán de Cabras and Hotel Ceres, and is organized by JGolf.
