Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño, seven-time winner on the DP World Tour, is obtaining his Level I Sports Technician qualification, and in this video, which we have revealed in three installments, he tells us about his feelings and his experience in this course that has broadened his professional horizons.
“I was at the ideal point in my career to take the course. I didn't really know which direction to take, but I lacked the qualification, because a very good option in my case is teaching, and the qualification is mandatory. I came to the course skeptical, but I have learned a lot,” the Madrid golfer explained in the first chapter.
In the second point, the Madrid-born golfer refers to the facilities offered to combine the course with competition. “The great advantage is that you know the schedule of in-person classes—three or four weeks a year—a year in advance; this way it's perfectly compatible,” he states.
Furthermore, Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño speaks positively about the course's level. "It's demanding and requires studying, but that rigor is necessary, as it's a mandatory qualification. It lends prestige to the profession. And another thing: the RFEG's Training Department has shown me a tremendous willingness to answer any questions at any time, and that helps," he says.
We've reached the third chapter. Many fans might wonder if, after twenty years as a professional and with a successful career behind him, a professional like Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño needs to take the course. He provides the answer himself: “The course is mandatory. Competing is one thing, teaching is another. And the qualification will be required by every club. I think it's the best thing you can do. The employability rate is extremely high because clubs are demanding sports coaches.”.
