María García Estrada, from Tenerife, passed away in the early hours of this morning as a result of an irreversible illness that had been affecting her for several months.

María García Estrada, born in 1981, was a regular member of the national golf teams during the nineties, when she amassed a brilliant sporting record that made her a great promise of this sport from the beginning.

Her triumphs came very early thanks to the precise and courageous golf that characterized her. As early as 1993, she was proclaimed Spanish Under-12 Champion, the starting point of an outstanding career that included, the following year, the gold medal for Teams – already representing Spanish golf – in the Topolino Trophy, the World Junior Championship, sharing those triumphant experiences with Sergio García from Castellón, Carlos de Corral and Noelia Navarro.

María García Estrada won this prestigious competition again with the Spanish team in 1995 – then alongside Rodrigo Cuadrado, Daniel Quirós and María Beautell – and in 1996 – with Eduardo de la Riva and Ramón Bescansa – also winning the gold medal in the Women's Individual competition in both 1995 and 1996.

Imbued with that winning dynamic, in 1996 she also triumphed in the Florida Junior Championship and the Doral Publix Junior Classic, two of the most important tournaments in the world in her category.

Finally, again as a member of the Spanish national teams, he won the gold medal at the 1997 European Under-18 Team Championship and the 1998 European Junior Team Championship.

Apart from these titles, she was second in competitions as important as the Doral Publix Junior Classic in 1995 and 1997 and the Junior Orange Bowl in 1997.

From all members of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, we wish to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our deceased. May he rest in peace.
