.Cayetana Fernández, Paula Francisco, Balma Dávalos and Paula Balanzategui complete a team that has its sights set on a third title in four editions.

Never tire of winning. This is the ambitious challenge facing the generation led by Paula Martín and Andrea Revuelta – ranked 2nd and 3rd in the World Golf Rankings – at the 2026 Ladies European Team Championship, held from July 7th to 11th at PGA National Slieve Russell Golf Club in Northern Ireland. Their goal is to secure an eighth title to further bolster Spain's record.

The Spanish six-player team in France comprises four golfers from Madrid: Andrea Revuelta, Paula Martín, Cayetana Fernández, and Paula Francisco; Balma Dávalos from Castellón; and Paula Balanzategui from Gipuzkoa. The latter two are making their debuts at the European Championships. Irene Rollán is the team captain, while Marcelo Prieto is the coach. The team also includes physiotherapist Álvaro Zerolo and RFEG Vice President Mar Ruiz de la Torre.

Regarding the winning team in 2025, players of the quality of Carolina López-Chacarra, now a professional, or Rocío Tejedo are no longer on the team, but a core group remains with increasing experience at all levels and in top form; the six golfers have been shining in the United States University League.

Andrea Revuelta arrives in Ireland after finishing as runner-up in The Women's Amateur Championship and winning the NCAA title in the United States alongside Paula Martín. Balma Dávalos has just won the Spanish National Amateur Championship with the Valencian Community team, Paula Francisco has had a great year in the United States, culminating in her participation in the Palmer Cup, Paula Balanzategui arrives as the reigning Spanish National Champion, and Cayetana Fernández brings her experience as a winner in the 2023 and 2025 editions. These are credentials sufficient to guarantee the success of this group.

Apart from the Spanish team and the host team, twenty other teams play in Ireland, representing England, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Czech Republic, France, Denmark, Finland, Austria, Scotland, Italy, Iceland, Wales, Belgium, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Estonia.

Spain, a major European benchmark

Spain is one of the leading contenders in this tournament, having won it seven times (1995, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2013, 2023, and 2025). Indeed, its record in recent years has been more than positive: gold medals in 2023 and 2025; silver medals in 2010, 2011, 2016, and 2019; bronze medals in 2008, 2015, and 2022; and fourth place in 2009 and 2017.

Competition system

The competition format includes two days of stroke play, which establish a ranking before the various knockout rounds for the title. It is essential to finish in one of the top eight positions in the preliminary round to be eligible for the title.

This tournament, whose first edition took place in 1959, was held biennially until 2007, when the European Golf Association (EGA) decided that the tournament would be annual until 2011 – with the exception of 2012, which was not held –, returning to its annual status from 2013.
