Spain, gold medalist, achieves another feat at the European Women's Team Championships

He won his second consecutive title after beating France 5-2 in the grand final

Second consecutive gold medal; three in the last four years; twelve times on the podium in the last nineteen years… Spain has once again added another grain of sand to the continuous feats that characterize it in the European Women's Team Championship held at the Irish PGA National Slieve Russell course, where it defeated France in the grand final by an undeniable 5-2.

The new accumulation of praise has been based, once again, on an extraordinary group of players - Andrea Revuelta, Paula Martín, Cayetana Fernández, Paula Francisco, Balma Dávalos and Paula Balanzategui - destined to repeat equally successful actions in the future, supported by the talent, effort and sense of camaraderie exhibited in this Women's Absolute European Team Championship.

The Spanish team, third in the preliminary phase, convincingly defeated Ireland (6.5 – 0.5) and Finland (4.5 – 2.5) in the quarterfinals and semifinals before facing the decisive match against France, a rival of proven quality.

The picture became unusually clear, due to hard work, at the end of the two doubles matches, which Spain won in equally complicated ways that required maximum concentration and accuracy to overcome two visibly tough and hostile French duos.

Andrea Revuelta and Cayetana Fernández won on the last hole by 1up, while Paula Martín and Balma Dávalos had to extend their good actions until the 20th hole, at which point the resistance of Valentine Delon and Constance Fouillet came to an end.

With a 2-0 lead, two more points were still needed in the five individual duels to complete the feat, a relatively simple objective to state but tremendously difficult to execute, especially because the French opposition was visible from the first moment.

The one who suffered the most was Paula Francisco, who lost decisively 6/5 to Valentine Delon, a setback soon compensated by Paula Martín's solid victory against Camille Min-Gaultier (5/3).

In the three remaining matches, sparks were literally flying, although, as the holes were completed and the end of the round approached, the very narrow Spanish leads weighed heavily on their French opponents. Balma Dávalos, visibly focused on securing the victory, gave it her all to clinch the decisive point for Spain, 2-1 against Vairana Heck, which meant the matches between Andrea Revuelta and Cayetana Fernández were tied.

The feat had finally been completed, the one that says that Spain had achieved its second consecutive gold medal; three in the last four years; twelve times on the podium in the last nineteen years.

The Spanish team

The Spanish sextet has been made up of four golfers from Madrid - Andrea Revuelta, Paula Martín, Cayetana Fernández and Paula Francisco -, Balma Dávalos from Castellón and Paula Balanzategui from Gipuzkoa, with Irene Rllán as captain, Marcelo Prieto as coach and Álvaro Zerolo as physiotherapist.

Apart from the Spanish team and the host team, twenty other teams have played in Ireland, representing England, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Czech Republic, France, Denmark, Finland, Austria, Scotland, Italy, Iceland, Wales, Belgium, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Estonia.

Spain, a major European benchmark

Spain is one of the leading contenders in this tournament, having won it eight times (1995, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2013, 2023, 2025, and 2026). Indeed, their record in recent years has been more than positive: gold medals in 2023, 2025, and 2026; silver medals in 2010, 2011, 2016, and 2019; bronze medals in 2008, 2015, and 2022; and fourth place in 2009 and 2017. In short, twelve podium finishes in the last nineteen years.
