The final day of the 2023 Spanish Senior Men's Pitch & Putt Championship was a thrilling one, successfully held at the Juan Antonio Samaranch Sports City, located in the Madrid town of Colmenar Viejo.
The final 18 holes resulted in a three-way tie for first place between Rafael Canomanuel, Ramón Valero, and Luis Montero. The first two achieved this with scores of 50 strokes, while the third finished with a 52.
Thus, it was necessary to play a tiebreaker playoff between these players to determine the new Spanish Senior Men's Pitch & Putt Champion, a title that went to Rafael Canomanuel after the golfer from Jardín de Aranjuez signed a birdie in the first round.
Likewise, it is also worth highlighting the hole-in-one achieved on this last day by Jesús María Marón, on the 10th hole of the Madrid course.
Juan Soler, first leader of the tournament
The 2023 Spanish Senior Men's Pitch & Putt Championship closed its first day, divided into two rounds of 18 holes, with Juan Soler as the sole leader.
The golfer from Real Club de Golf El Candado completed the first round, the morning round, in 50 strokes, which put him in fourth position, and it was in the second round, the afternoon round, where he took the lead with a score of 49 strokes.
In total, Juan Soler achieved a total of 99 strokes, one less than Luis Montero, who finished second, and two less than Rafael Santonja, who took third place, although special mention must also be made of the two consecutive holes in 1, on holes 5 and 6, scored by Rafael Canomanuel during the morning round, undoubtedly a feat.
The 2023 Spanish Senior Men's Pitch & Putt Championship brought together sixty golfers at the Juan Antonio Samaranch Sports City, home to one of the most emblematic courses of this golf specialty in our country. The main novelty this year was that the women's competition was not held at the same time as the men's.
The creation of this Spanish Individual Senior Pitch & Putt Championship in 2009 by the Pitch & Putt Committee of the RFEG responded to the need to meet the growing demand for competitions in this golf specialty, so popular among Spanish players in recent times.
