Emma Cabrera has been proclaimed champion of the Finland International held at the Helsinki CG, a triumph that marks the first time a Spanish player has won this competition, where the Canary Islander herself finished in second place last year.

The golfer from Gran Canaria had an epic day, finishing the eighteen holes at even par and tying with local player Kaisa Rutila. A playoff was necessary, and on the first hole, Emma sank an extremely difficult birdie, crushing the Finnish player's spirits. Just one more hole was needed to determine the new champion, a challenge Emma met perfectly with another birdie. The other Spanish player in the competition, Inés Díaz Negrete from Asturias, finished in ninth place after a disappointing round (79).

In the men's category, Álvaro Quirós was unable to repeat his runner-up finish from last year, and local player Jarno Hovila won with a total of -8. The Spanish players were never in contention for the top spot, and the best-placed Spaniard at the end of the championship was Pedro Oriol (11th), ten strokes behind the champion.

Emma Cabrera shares the lead with local Kaisa Ruutila (142) in the International Championship of Finland, which is being held until Saturday on the course in the Finnish capital.

The Canary Islander, who excelled in the first round with a 69 (the only player to finish under par), struggled more than expected in the second round, finishing with a 73. This didn't prevent her from maintaining her lead, although she now shares it with Ruutila, who carded a 70. Inés Díaz Negrete, the other Spanish player in the field, is in fifth place with 149 strokes.

In the men's category, Pedro Oriol is in 12th place with 144 strokes, nine strokes behind the leader, Finland's Jarno Hovila, who astonished everyone with a 64 in the first round. Sebastián García Grout is in 22nd place with +5, and Gonzalo Vicente has dropped to 35th (149).
