The Alicante Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Turisme Comunitat Valenciana and the Association of Golf Course Entrepreneurs of the Costa Blanca and Valencian Community, has prepared a Report on Golf Tourism in the Valencian Community which highlights the importance of the golf industry in the overall tourism of the Valencian Community.
The aforementioned report contains a series of data that reaffirm the Valencian Community in general, and the Costa Blanca in particular, as one of the main golf tourism destinations in Europe.
The total economic impact of golf tourism is estimated at €745 million across the Valencian Community (€494 million in Alicante), generating a total of 9,389 jobs (6,228 in Alicante). In terms of GDP, these figures represent 0.41% of the Valencian Community's GDP and 0.71% of Alicante's GDP thanks to golf tourism.
Special mention should be made of the fact that every euro spent on a golf course is multiplied by 14 in the overall economy of the Valencian Community, a ratio of 1 to 8 in the case of jobs generated on a golf course.
It should also be noted that 85% of golf tourists are foreign, with average spending per golf tourist 60% higher than that of other holiday tourists. Golf tourism also generates 500,000 overnight stays annually in the Valencian Community and over €40 million in revenue for hotels (€85 million including other types of accommodation).
This cross-cutting effect also has an impact on other complementary sectors (72 million euros in restaurants, 60 million in shops, 48 million in vehicle rental…)
