Infinitum Golf (Tarragona) is the setting this weekend, from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 of May, for the Spanish Under 16 Championship 2026, a major golf event that brings together 180 young national talents in pursuit of two titles that have been won by Sergio García, Carlota Ciganda or Jon Rahm.
Both the men's and women's events feature ninety players. The men's event takes place on the special Ruins+Hills course and includes some very promising young players: Oliver de Wint from Andalusia, winner of the recent National Junior Ranking Tournament and current Spanish Junior Champion, and Martín Cervera, winner of the 2025 Reid Trophy; and Ignacio Iglesias from Castellón, the brilliant winner of the Spanish Under-18 Championship, are three of them.
Furthermore, Tarragona is home to other young players with enormous potential - Graciliano Ballesteros, Joaquín Beltrán, Nicolás González, Jorge de la Riva,… - which makes making accurate predictions a Herculean task.
The men's and women's competitions have something in common beyond location: the eight members of the Infinitum team—four boys and four girls—who won the Under-16 match for Spain against England in mid-April are all playing for Infinitum. These include Oliver de Wint, Martín Cervera, Ignacio Iglesias, and Nicolás González, as well as Chanya Huaysan, Icíar Rodríguez, Paula Jiménez, and Rut Díaz.
These are four of the golfers to beat at the Lakes course, thanks to this and other achievements—Chanya won the National Junior Qualifying Tournament—but they are by no means the only ones. Sofía Gamilla, the current Spanish Junior Champion, Paula Puerta, Elena Isorna, Ioana García, Luna Isabella Valencia… Good names for a promising weekend.
Both tournaments, valid for the National Under 16 and Junior Rankings, as well as for the World Rankings, are played over three days of 18 holes each, with a cut at 60th place and ties at the end of the second round.
A tournament with a brilliant history
To give a little background, this tournament has been held annually since 1991, offering young golfers areas of activity where fun and competition go hand in hand.
The fact that, in the not-too-distant past, golfers like Jon Rahm, Carlota Ciganda, Sergio García, Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Noemí Jiménez, Adrián Otaegui, and many others have competed in this tournament is an incentive for them all. In recent years, promising amateur players like José Luis Ballester and Rocío Tejedo have triumphed in the tournament.
