Carlota Ciganda, the 15-year-old European Under-16 champion and player from the Ulzama Golf Club, has won the Lacoste Promises qualifying event for the second year in a row, which was held this weekend at Señorío de Zuasti Golf Club.

As has happened in many places across Spain these past few days, the golf course in Navarre has been affected by very harsh weather that nearly forced the tournament to be suspended. The young men and women, including players from Navarre, the Basque Country, Cantabria, Aragon, and even the Canary Islands, played both rounds in hurricane-force winds, which contributed to scores higher than usual for these young champions.

These four winners will be part of the 20 Promises who will attend the Lacoste Final in November in La Manga, where they will practice alongside Miguel Ángel Jiménez, José María Olazábal and Nacho Garrido.

Carlota Ciganda: “It was very windy yesterday, but even more so today. There were some holes where it was blowing nonstop, and it was a bit uncomfortable putting. I'm very happy, not only for having won but also because I'm going back to the Lacoste Promises Final in La Manga. Last year was a great experience, and I had a wonderful time. I learned a lot from Olazábal, Jiménez, and Garrido; they taught us many things about how to play, how to stay focused, how to approach the course trying to do our best, and if you have a bad hole, it's not the end of the world, just move on to the next one.”.
