The title stays at home. After two days of dominance by Barcelona native Adriana García Terol, the Madrid Women's Championship concluded at the Santander Golf Course (Boadilla del Monte) with a victory for Madrid's Ángela Revuelta, who finished strong in this event, which counts towards the Women's World Amateur Golf Ranking and the Women's Under 18 National Ranking.
Ángela, like Amanda, another great talent bearing the Revuelta stamp, is following in the footsteps of her sister Andrea, a winner in so many national and international competitions. To win, she carded a round of 70 strokes, with five birdies, to finish the tournament with a total of 211, two less than Carlota López from Valencia (note her impressive 67 strokes for the day).
Adriana García Terol, meanwhile, has dropped to a tie for third place with Nagore Martínez after completing the round with 74 strokes. She started with a birdie, but her bogeys on holes 2, 3, and 4 proved a heavy burden.
Also noteworthy this Sunday is Martina Navarro's 65, the best round of the week at Golf Santander.
Adriana García Terol leads after the first 36 holes
At the end of the first day, Adriana García Terol led the leaderboard, one of the golfers expected to be at the top until Sunday, as she proved to be. Her 68 strokes (-4) on a windy day in Madrid, with six birdies, were unreachable for her rivals. Second place was shared by Nagore Martínez and one of the season's breakout players, Daniela Carrión from Valencia, recently crowned Spanish Under-16 Champion. Both carded a 70 (-2).
Adriana García Terol herself maintained her lead after the first 36 holes. The Catalan golfer shot even par on Saturday, alternating three birdies with three bogeys.
However, Adriana couldn't be complacent, as her lead over the chasing trio was minimal. Ángela Revuelta, África Oliva, and Nagore Martínez shared second place at -3, while another Catalan, Claudia Lara, was fifth at -2. Together, they created a sensational end to the tournament.
