On December 31, 2018, the Resolution of December 21, 2018, of the Presidency of the Higher Sports Council, approving the list of substances and methods prohibited in sport, was published in the Official State Gazette.

In this way, the new List of prohibited substances and methods in sport for the year 2019 (hereinafter “List”), published by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), effective from 1 January 2019, is integrated into the Spanish legal system.

This List has been approved by the WADA Executive Committee and designates which substances and methods are prohibited both in and out of competition and which substances are prohibited in certain sports.

VERY IMPORTANT

Whether you are an athlete, coach, doctor, or athlete support staff, it is important to be aware of changes to avoid unintended positives.

WADA is responsible for preparing and publishing the List, which is reviewed at least once a year, published in October of each year, and takes effect on January 1 of the following year. In the case of Spain, the list is incorporated into our national legislation by publishing it in the

BOE.

As the main modifications of

The 2019 list of prohibited substances and methods has clarified the definition of genetic doping and added a number of examples of substances in different categories:

. The substance 4-hydroxytestosterone has been transferred to the class of “Endogenous anabolic androgenic steroids”.

. More examples of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) activating agents were added.

Example of beta-2 agonists.

Examples of aromatase inhibitors.

Examples in category S4.4 Agents that prevent activation of the activin IIB receptor.

The following were included

additional methylhexanamine analogues

We remind athletes who have a legitimate medical reason to use a prohibited substance or method listed on the List that they must apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).

You can find the AUT application and admission process at

the web from the Spanish Agency for Health Protection in Sport (AEPSAD)

The Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) is the only valid document for anti-doping agencies. A medical report or prescription for a prohibited substance or method by a doctor does not mean it is permitted and cannot be used as justification in the event of an adverse analytical finding in a doping control.
