The Spanish Association of Golf Managers (AEGG), gathered this week at the Parador Málaga Golf for the V Technical Conference, has officially launched the ProGolf Platform, an initiative they have been working on for almost a year and which has the approval, support and backing of the golf industry, including the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.

Three objectives guide the ProGolf Platform: to improve, strengthen and protect the public image of golf in Spain; to organize, defend and represent the interests of the golf industry; and to self-regulate, define and observe good practices in the golf sector in our country.

The RFEG and the Autonomous Federations of Andalusia and Madrid, the Greenkeepers and Professionals Associations, promotional entities of various destinations in the national geography, suppliers of the golf industry, course owners, representatives of the administration, as well as opinion leaders, have wanted to join this initiative that is chaired by Julián Lara (owner of Riversa) and directed by Manuel Lozano, also responsible for the Spanish Association of Golf Managers.

The ProGolf Platform seeks to bring together all people and entities related to this sport in order to obtain the deserved social and institutional recognition, and at the same time increase the number of golf practitioners, which, in addition to being a sport, has managed to become an industry and engine of the economy in many areas of our country generating wealth, and with it, countless direct and indirect jobs.

Salvador Álvarez Escobar, president of the AEGG, promoter of the ProGolf Platform: “We want to raise awareness among the population and the administrations of the importance of golf in the main industry of this country: tourism; and that, once and for all, it is recognized as one of the sports with the greatest educational potential due to the formative, healthy and socio-economic values that characterize it.”.

“Besides boasting about the great champions – women and men – who for many years have been racking up victories all over the world, we are the second most popular destination for European golfers after Scotland, and the second most popular worldwide! But aren't we all going to be able to make society understand this? If we've managed to do the hardest thing, aren't we going to be able to do the easiest?”

“The goal of the ProGolf Platform is for all sectors involved in this sport/industry to join forces and push forward now, so that society sees and appreciates what golf is, and so that it is considered just another sport practiced by ordinary people. And we're not asking for anything more.”.
