The Sierra GC Golf Club (Poland) and Gut Altentann GC (Austria) host the European Senior Men's and Women's Team Championships respectively, which will take place simultaneously between September 2nd and 6th, with a Spanish team aiming for the podium.

A sextet with extensive experience to face the men's tournament

The men's competition will take place at Sierra Golf Club, located in the north of Poland, with a Spanish sextet made up of Ángel Macías, Juan Carlos Elósegui, Francisco Maestro, Luis Gabarda, Enrique Bernardo and Gustavo Larrazábal – who also serves as captain.

The performances of players like Ángel Macías or Luis Gabarda in the National Rankings of the category – one victory for each of them – or the triumph of Gustavo Larrazábal in the Spanish Doubles Championship together with Juan Carlos Tinturé, are some guarantees to believe in a good performance of the team, which defends fifth place.

The women's competition, in Austria

The European Senior Women's Team Championship, meanwhile, is being held at Gut Altentann Golf Club, near Salzburg, with the presence of a Spanish team marked by the abundant presence of players from the Madrid-based Club de la Puerta de Hierro.

Up to four members of this club are part of the team: Macarena Campomanes, María Orueta, Rocío Ruiz de Velasco, and María Castillo. Completing the lineup are Mercedes Gómez, a player from the Villa de Madrid Country Club, and Mar Coscóstegui, a golfer from the Ganguren Sports Club. The team is captained by fellow golfer Pía Allende.

The triumphs of Macarena Campomanes in the Spanish Senior Championship and of María Castillo in the Spanish International and in the National Senior Women's Grand Prix, as well as the second place achieved by María Orueta in the European Senior Individual Championship this season, make up the presentation card of a team that will try to improve the sixth place obtained last year.

A record with numerous titles

Spain's record includes five European Senior Men's Team Championship titles, specifically in the editions of 1985, 1986, 1994, 1999 and 2000. They were also runners-up in 1989, 1996 and 2004 and won bronze medals in 1991, 1993, 1995, 2005 and 2011. In total, they have reached the podium thirteen times.

In the women's competition, the Spanish team has only won once, in 1996, finishing second four times (1991, 1999, 2008 and 2011) and third four times (1989, 1994, 2004 and 2006). That's nine podium finishes.

Both competitions are divided into two phases: a first Stroke Play, in which you have to qualify among the top eight to access the match bracket with a chance of winning, and a second Match Play in which you have to overcome three turns to obtain the coveted title.
